So, I came into several 8 year old Optiplex 7010 by SaylorA2022-02-25 06:58:52
Use the old drives. But keep images offline. by OddParity 2022-02-25 07:56:03
When one drive fails (and it will, but nobody knows when) you can slap the image on the next drive and keep on trucking. If a spinning drive survives the first four years (and all of these have), I figure it has decent odds of going ten years, and maybe even longer. I have a Win98SE box that is old enough to buy liquor and is only on its second HDD.

Of course keep the user files backed up too. Add a cloud storage account that redirects the Desktop, Documents, etc. folders and you never need to worry about a failing drive taking out Aunt Mabel's secret chicken tetrazzini recipe or someone's summer vacation photos.
