can claim EP while in office. I think we both agree on that point. Before Trump, whenever a president claimed EP for certain documents, they pretty much got it for ever. Even long after the person had left office, those documents remained protected simply because no one questioned it. Now with the SCOTUS ruling, everyone knows anything is up for grabs as soon as that president that claimed EP for those documents leaves office.

The EP is in effect while the person is in office, but goes away as soon as they are gone.

So, the next question becomes, what happens if Trump runs in 2024 and wins, does Congress have return everything? Probably not. But I can imagine severe penalties to anyone who leaks the information contained within them during his second term.
