collapses into a black hole once the nuclear fuel is exhausted... which does not mean that all of the mass has to disappear forever behind an event horizon. Supernovae often leave a black hole remnant, yet they blow up rather neatly (not that anyone knows exactly how). This thing goes out with a bang. It's possible there is a black hole remnant where this monster star used to be (it's way too far to be able to tell), but most of the content is apparently blown away in a rather spectacular fashion.
