I shouldn't have put that "...what is the better system" question in my post. I was commenting on what joecrouse was saying he believes the plans of the republicans who were just elected are. Which came down to return a greater freedom of choice to people in several aspects of life and trust that they will make good choices when given that freedom. My question was and is, what do you do when they don't make good choices, or they do but fall through the cracks in some other way?

I don't necessarily disagree with the ideas you have presented. I also haven't heard any elected officials pushing for them. That may be because I live in a blue state. Not sure. However, it is important to point out that your bullet point #1 is to subsidize the system. So welfare for those who had bad luck or made bad choices. Every elected republican I have heard talk about any of this seems begrudgingly okay with welfare for those with bad luck, but is adamantly against it for those who make bad choices.

So, should people have to suffer the consequences of their decisions or not? If not, why is the list of things that joecrouse provided nothing more than a laundry list of ways to allow people more freedom to make those decisions if we are just going to subsidize them after they use that freedom to make bad decisions?
