Goodbye to the first place I truly felt welcome. by AprylMae 2022-02-28 07:28:30
When I first found UF, I didn't read the forum. I didn't understand all of the tech, but I understood enough to get most of the jokes, and it was funny with great characters. Then one day, I finally clicked the comic and found the forum. It was full of people who were smart, funny, kind, and caring. I lurked for a while because I was afraid I wouldn't be accepted. But the more I lurked, the more of myself I started to see in the posts, so eventually I registered. It only took a few posts and comments to see how special this place really was. I used to joke that it was better than Google because I could ask a question here, about nearly any topic, and by the end of the day, I had an answer, resources for more information, and real world examples. But even more important, there were real people who cared about each other and about me. You all were my support during my parents divorce. You were my support during my own divorce. You were my support when I was sexually assaulted. You were my friends when I felt like I had nobody. Most of the people I think of as true friends, I know through this forum. I'll miss this place, very much.
