NOTE: Your level of detail is a little "different": Your experience and skills are more suited to the melding of man and machine: a lot of this other stuff just makes no sense at all, especially since you really can't sense it (or appreciate it) as others might. Still, what you can sense can be particularly entertaining...
The circular barrier contains 12 forms "doing their thing", and it just happens to be ringside for Reggie and Friends. The guy on Reggie's left, apparently able to see things that others can't see (or maybe he's on better drugs - who can tell?) winces to his left as three black wispy fireballs cross over and slam into Reggie's right-hand man, utterly shredding his built-up assault rifle up to the reciever, chewing up his left arm (which *was* holding the forestock!) up to the elbow! Blood trickles out of the badly-cauterized stump as he fades back, falling to his knees on the ground. He appears to be digging at/for something on his belt with his good hand, but it's on his left side.
Suddenly you see a similar black "flash" to Reggie's left, and the guy who was wincing away from the triple-fireball assault just vanishes. Threw back his head as if to scream and -FOOP!- he was gone. Never even got to make a sound. That is somehow more terrifying than if he'd actually screamed or something; it leaves an after-image on your sould it would seem.
But before you can take it all in, you note that Reggie's continued assault on Jillian only produces pretty green-leaf aftermarks on her shield as the bullets whiz off into the distance, buzzing angrily as they go. Prettily ineffective, almost mocking, really. Jillian smiles and waves her arms in a strange, outside circular motion, and suddenly the blackened barrier that separates you guys from the action within vanishes, collapsing into the fire that burns in its center, taking the fire with it. The whole thing vanishes, leaving you guys (and Leeson) standing there dumbly, in a stunned sort of silence. In the distance you still hear NYC's nightnoise: the ambience that reminds you that The City Never Sleeps. It also serves to calm you. Then you notice the helicopter breezing along slowly overhead. It's an NYPD Aerial Assault Response Team, but judging by the attitude that they're presenting they're not actively aware of what's been happening down here, in this silent storm. They gently (if noisily) glide away towards downtown, obliviously wandering around in their patrol pattern. Good thing, too. |
