Fire for effect Mr. X: by LongFist 2017-05-31 17:26:19
The grenade explodes, doing an AMAZING amount of damage to the lady in labor, and everyone else in the room!  The HEDP core, luckily enough, blew DOWN into the target (exploding 6's can be extremely helpful!) and the standard debris splattered by the halo of DP wire does an excellent circular-pattern "blender" effect for six meters.  *ahem*  You guys are standing at the twelve meter mark, so you're perfectly safe.  This time.  The seven people holding the cylinders with plastic tubing attached are well-within the blast radius, and are burst-pushed away from the spider-queen in the center, pieces of them splashing about in the secondary fragment storm that erupted from the sides of the HEDP grenade.  The spider-queen herself manifests her true form (maybe she can no longer hold up the illusion?) and you can see that she is bracketed down to the gurney, with her legs spilling forth off to the left and the right of the gurney proper.

Some of the shrapnel seems directed beyond the main target in a channel, like between a couple of invisible shields or something, and you notice that the bonfire shivers and shakes as the fragments burst through it.  As the bonfire seems to shift and settle, that keening, horrifying wail is heard.  Not everyone would notice it, but you're fairly well twigged AND focused on that area, so you see that there may be a cause and effect here.
