I know that some groups will tell you that addiction can't be beaten and that the only thing is total abstinence. I say, "Bull pucky." I've beaten addiction to both sugar and caffiene. I can still take small amounts of both and not have cravings for more. I am an alcoholic myself, but I have managed to cut my level of drinking down drastically and am working towards just having a few drinks on occasion. Yes, it is hard, but it's doable. I AM NOT TRYING TO CHANGE YOUR PATH HERE! Merely voicing my opinion. Good for you for recognizing that the problem exists in the first place, and I wish you luck on this endeavor.
