fundamental physical constants (Planck length, electron charge, etc.) that determine how our universe functions. If any one of them is outside a rather narrow range, the physics doesn't work. Poof! the configuration collapses.

I don't know of other islands of stability for these constants/variables (?). Chicken & egg? Since we're inside the system we can't tell. But the "Guy lounging on the Throne" picture doesn't cut it with me either.
