It was Wednesday [2015.04.15] and I had heard nothing yet from the Dudley High School AVT Team. I sent an eMail asking "How'd it go?" and received the following response:
"Detroit went well, as far as a learning experience. Brayan got the electric car through inspection, but it could not finish a complete run. The ethanol team had a few successful runs. We did not get the urban concept through inspection. The kids finally *realized* that they have to actually *work* *hard* for this competition. The kids all worked hard while we were there. Now we just need to get them to work hard *before* they go. They saw a lot of other students working constantly, obsessively on their cars. Some of them stayed up way to late working on the cars. Ricky got sick and was out of action 2 days.
We had a great visit to the Honda Plant, and I think the kids really got a lot out of that visit and the Henry Ford Museum. Ricky and I were exhausted yesterday, but we are going to get an update with pictures sent out asap. Thanks for checking on us. I really think you would have loved the Eco-marathon. It has a lot of people like you. Oh, the team also got to meet Jay Leno, and might be featured in one of his upcoming episodes.
So all-in-all a good trip. A lot of lessons learned. We really can take what we have as a good head start for next year."
I'll admit to being a bit miffed when they broke down the EV and took it to the Eco-Marathon *anyway* after I *told* them the motor was bad, but kids these days think they invented everything and apparently I didn't know what I was talking about. It got through inspection, but couldn't make a full pull. (Gee, I wonder why?) Maybe this year... ...but we're going to need to get a new motor...
Dudley AVT 2015 Post-Action Report Complete. Thank you all for your kind (and timely) suggestions and support. You guys made all of this possible - I fully admit to not having enough depth on the bench to make it happen. Thank you! :D |
