<Myke> Well, my mechanic is furious... This will not be a good week.

<Myke> Like car shopping time.
<Myke> got my tranny rebuit about 18 months ago by $XM_SHOP
<Myke> $4K
<Myke> about 8 months ago it wigged out while I was hanging out with laserman
<Myke> repaired under warrenty.
<Myke> (3 year, 60000KM)
<Myke> Thursday night, while returning from a client's, I get 'Service Engine Soon' and it starts burning a lot of gas.
<Myke> (looked like the O2 sensor was blown, had that problem back in 2000, $60 part, 30 minutes labour)
<Myke> took it to my mechanic yesterday
<Myke> he calls me yesterday 'round 4, tells me it's the transmission again, torque converter
<Myke> so I think 'no biggy - I have a warrenty'
<Myke> took it to $XM_SHOP with my paperwork
<Myke> called me an hour ago
<Myke> apparently my transmission is full of water
<Myke> see - when they did the original rebuild 18 months ago
<Dark> How the hell? shoddy work by $XM_SHOP, forgetting a seal or something
<Myke> they added a second radiator to help cool the fluids
<Myke> apparently the normal chain is xmission->main rad->2ndard rad->xmission
<Myke> $XM_SHOP told me today that the xmission is only using the 2ndary rad, not the main one
<Myke> it'll work, but in the winter the xmission will get very cold.
<Myke> but since it's full of water
<Myke> the xmission and torque converter are both destroyed and need to be replaced
<Myke> and that's NOT covered by the warrenty
<Myke> AND the rads will need to be worked on.
<Myke> so, for $4K, I can put a decent down payment on a new car...
<Dark> but but but, isn't it thier fault that the tranny filled with water?
<Da_Pineapple> and at that point, I'd say screw it and buy a new van.
<Myke> Oh - but I haven't told you why MY mechanic is furious
<xslogic> No, you haven't.
<Myke> see - since I thought it was the O2 sensor, I took it to him.
<Myke> He ran the code and it was "700 - General Transmission Failure"
<Myke> but he doesn't have the latest firmware on his scanner, so he coulnd't scan the transmission
<Myke> so he took my van to his transmission shop friends
<Myke> Where they ran the code 'Torque converter not locking up'
<Myke> (Which is what it's supposed to do at 50KMph and 70KMph)
<Myke> (Which is a problem I had noticed immediately after the work done 8 months ago... and I *took it back* to $XM_SHOP and told them about it -
<Myke> they weren't concerned)
<Myke> So this is why I took it to $XM_SHOP
<Myke> After $XM_SHOP calls me back, I call my mechanic
<Myke> He flips out
<Myke> (now - my mechanic is a ~60 year old guy who knows his $STUFF)
<Dark> sounds like fun
<Myke> So he demands $XM_SHOP's number and the dude's name from me
<Myke> which I give him
<Myke> 2 minutes later he calls back and apparently $XM_SHOP said the dude wasn't in today...
<Myke> I had spoken to him 15 minutes earlier for half an hour...

<Myke> So my mechanic is now angry
<Myke> tells me my xmission fluid had been LOW and normal colour
<Myke> if there was water, it'd've been HIGH and discoulored
<Myke> and since my mechanic knew I had my $XM_SHOP warrenty - he knew he didn't have to do anything about it.
<Myke> So I've called $XM_SHOP's head office and they'll contact me tomorrow.
<Myke> I'm tempted to go to some Honda dealers tonight.
<xslogic> Sounds like they're trying to wriggle out of the warranty.
<Myke> xslogic: well, there's a back story there too
<Myke> the original repair was done with $SOMEONE_ELSE as the owner of the location
<Myke> before the 2nd repair - someone else bought it.
<Devnull> is myke about to buy an uglement?
