*sigh*. People who say a variation of the subject line cause me to cringe, and look for an escape route.
Yes, $diety is on your side. Your mistake is extrapolating from there, and assuming that $deity agrees with you and is planning on helping you win.
Sometimes, "being on your side" means that $deity is about to punish you for what you are/are not doing. This is not a betrayal of you by $deity - this is the rod of correction being applied by the parent.
Do not get huffy when you lose - it comes across like a three year old wailing because mommy took away the chocolate bar you stole ... when that "chocolate bar" is really Ex-lax, and she's saving you from being very, very sick.
