In my OmniCode block, I list my language as EN.Dan_Ratherian. I feel that an explanation is in order.
For many years, Dan Rather was the anchor of the CBS Evening news. As the most-watched new program, his accent is burned into the brains of myself and millions of other Americans as the "norm".
There is probably a real name for the accent (I think I have seen "US Midwest"), but the exemplar of the accent, for me, is Mr. Rather.
As a roleplayer/GM, I occasionally use different accents to distinguish one NPC from another. I spent a lot of time practicing this when I was in High School, and it was great.
There was, however, a side-effect. In my working life, I found myself unconsciously practicing/mimicking the slavic accent of some of my co-workers. In front of them! Ack! No offense was intended!
Except for "Speedy". I did intend to insult you. Anyone who edits their data set to throw away "bad data points" on a research thesis project simply DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE POINT OF THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD, and should NEVER have been given a degree. |
