Just another reminder why I don't play FPS games, really.
Play "Spectator" and get a walk through / running commentary on a map & it's objectives, only to have said data purged after my brain decides it's worthless.
Why is it worthless, you ask?
Because it does no good to know where the tank is or why the papers have to (not) reach the boat, if you never make it out of the alley behind the Allied base.
The *farthest* I managed to get was past the flag pole & into an alley beyond where I was shot before I could take another five steps.
Otherwise I never made it past the rear corner of the building.
Shot while crossing in front of the truck, shot while approaching the corner, dead while crouching (headshot from behind, point blank range), shot from location unknown & dead before I knew what hit me, shot from across the street, shot while walking down the steps from the respawn point...
In the end I was figuring I'd respawn, walk out the door, and get shot because they were waiting on the porch in a rocking chair...
It did no good to be shown the map - I didn't get to SEE any of it.
It did no good to tell me what the objectives were, since didn't live long enough to attempt any of them.
Reading the Manual didn't help & reading the FAQ's didn't do anything but frustrate me further.
I expect a learning curve.
I understand I have to practice in order to get better.
It took a while before I mastered all the controls in Total Annihilation & could play well.
I accept that I'm going to die occasionally until I get good enough to know what NOT to do.
But getting my @$$ handed to me EVERY THIRTY SECONDS gets "a bit old" after a while.
Watching my bullets leave a trail across the wall *through* my target, only to get blown away because I've "missed"?
I. Don't. F'ing. Think. So.
I'm not sure which was "funnier":
Watching "ShadowSystems' is a n00b, go easy on hi-" and being shot before the system could finish displaying the message, or getting pushed out the window of the tower by my own team member.
Nice intro to WET.
I think I'll go do something enjoyable now, like slamming my reproductive organs in the microwave door repeatedly until I stop bleeding...
*grrrrr*
