In my infinite boredom... by shadowsystems2007-04-15 03:05:45
Latest Design: The Bunker. by shadowsystems 2007-04-23 04:37:10
Here.
The outer walls are 1' thick (each) reinforced concrete-and-rebar sandwiching a 1' metal core.
The Outer-Set Front Doors are 1' thick metal, with a cut-out for the solid metal "lock bar" that gets lowered between the doors to completely lock them closed.
The only way to open them with the LB engaged is to either rip them off their reinforced, 6"-thick-steel pivot pins, or produce enough firepower to obliterate them entirely.
Just inside the OSFD is a sliding metal "Blast Panel" assembly.
When the need calls for it, two 1' thick, solid metal plates slide in from the sides to add another 1' of metal AND reinforcing bracing to the outer doors.
Then there's the Inner-Set FD, a second set of the Outer Doors.
This provides *three feet* of interleaved, reinforced, self-reinforcing metal between the outside World and anyone inside.

The Foyer contains a long couch & low coffee tables for entertaining guests, a closet to store their coats & wet shoes if need-be, and a wheel-chair friendly bathroom (behind a curtain).
You will also notice the first ceiling-mounted, gimbaled (360deg X / 180deg Y), twin-barreled TerraWatt Laster Turret.
Normally encased in a 6"-thick, split-clam-shell dome that can be opened or closed in 2milliseconds (defensive).
Then you come to the Interior Doors.
They are like the OSFD/BP/ISFD combination, without the BP.
Just inside the Great Room, you find two more of the Turrets.
Don't anger the resident A.I. for you are soft & your mono-atomic-dust can be easily filtered from the Complex Air Purification Systems.

To either side of the Foyer is a Guest Bedroom.
Each has a Queen sized bed, wrap around desks, a large tv, plenty of dresser & counter top space.
A wheel chair friendly bathroom with 'chair friendly toilet, sink, & wheel-into upright tub completes the room.
There is a room labled "Den" which can be used as anything you like, outfitting it as you please.

There is a Projection Screen equipped Entertainment room.
An 11' wide x 9' tall screen in one end, a ceiling-mounted, media computer controlled high-grade projector at the other, and enough speakers to make even Mr Lucas weep with joy.
All the individual seats (there's 8) are recliners with drink holders & headphone jacks / volume controls (just in case you DON'T want to wake the dead)...
There is also a double-wide recliner "love seat" at the back, for those snuggle moments.

There is a Library with lots of comfy sofa seats & plenty of book cases to hold more books than most sane people ever read in a life time.

inside the Pool Room is a large, indoor heated / cooled swimming pool.
The doors to the PR are like the OSFD, and are designed to only open *outwards*.
As you enter either of the doors to the Pool Room, you get to face another standard Turret, and if you make it as far as the Inner Sanctum Doors, there's a quad-barreled Turret waiting to blow your happy butt into vapor.
At one end of the PR is a set of 'chair friendly bathrooms, each with a wheel-in standing tub so you can wash off the chlorine more thoroughly than the shower stations can do.
The Pool itself doubles as a secondary, emergency cooling tank.

The Inner Sanctum Doors is another set of OSFD/BP/ISFD, leading into the Nuclear Reactor Room.
The NRR walls, in addition to sandwiching the solid metal core of the outer walls, also contains a 1' thick Lead Core to contain any stray radiation.
The NR is a A.I. controlled, self sustaining, Pebble-Bed Reactor with a Cooling Tank that doubles as the Hot Water Heater & Water Pumping/Filtration System, and is connected to a pair of Steam Turbines that produce enough power to not just "sell back to the grid", but *power it* if need be.

The Laundry Room contains a wall-length, Floor-To-Ceiling Cabinet Storage Area, Front Loading Washer & Drier, a double-wide sink, and enough counter space to make even an OCD washer happy.

The Kitchen is wide, has LOTS of C3 (Cabinets underneath, Counter Tops, & Cupboards overhead) space to make even the biggest Thanksgiving feast this side of a UNICEF "Feed The Hungry" campaign, a dishwasher, stove/oven, microwave, and double-wide sink.
The Refrigerator & Freezer *never* need defrosting. Trust me.

The Master Bedroom has a King sized bed, wrap around drawers & counter tops, a large closet, and a Master bath Suite.
The MBS contains a wheel-in standing tub, wheel-in shower stall, & chair friendly toilet & sink units.
All the non-Security interior doors, despite being a foot thick of solid metal, are all controlled by motion sensors located above the doors.
If the A.I. determines that you are authorized to enter those doors (aka, Parents are allowed in the Master Bedroom, but the kids aren't? Then the A.I. won't let the kids in!) then it opens them as you approach, giving plenty of time for someone in a wheel chair to gain entrance without having to wait for the doors to open (much less back-up for them TO open).
