Internet Kiosk by ideur2002-08-05 03:19:36
  What I would include... by caffine-iv 2002-08-05 03:47:10
Not a super fast internet connection. For free? They shouldn't be downloading software or anything on a public mahcine anyways.

I would go with Linux, this will reinforce the downloading of software idea, and also make it less prone to user bugger-ups (like persay, the "accidental" erasure of the windows registry or something. you never know what a guru on a bad day will do!)

I'de go with cheap computers, but good monitors. Even for free a person shoudn't leave the computer with a migrain because of flicker :P Not to mention I'de get pissed if I even had to walk around a computer that flickered like hell at 59Hz or some crap, not to mention use one. I might break teh machine for spite if that happened! :)

I think an optical mouse would be a good idea, no need to clean it all the time and impossible for someone to steal the roller ball out of. I dunno about everywere else, but all teh schools here hada problem with the occasional student taking a few mouse balls :P

For service I might actually just have a firewall/router do on-demand dialup. 56k.... Now you say this is for work. If work has hte equipment, setup a dialup server there and use the works bandwidth. IT would be a minimal impact, altho it woudl be a blazing fast 56k connection =)

Course, you'de have to wiegh out the cost difference of just getting DSL, or buying the equipment to run dialup. :P

I'de probebly resrve the thing to 5 or 6 computers too. Or depending on the mall, maybe only 2. We have some dead malls around here that 2 would be too many for... Tho there are some happening malls here where you could have a kiosk of 20 computers on each wing and still have lines :D
