There was a storyline in the previous Dr Who seasons, (since it restarted but I'm too lazy to look up the exact episode numbers.) Where The Doctor banished all the Daleks except the ones in the "Cult of Scarro" (sp?) these cultists Daleks were considered heretics by the rest of the Daleks because they were trying to improve the Dalek race by merging it with Humans. This happened in the episode where the New York state building was being constructed. So the "impure" Daleks wern't just slightly off DNA-wise. They were part-human hybrids. When the new Daleks came out they were based off the original Dalek species and thus thought anything that isn't 100% Dalek needs to be exterminated. That all made sense. The power rangers motif and the larger size both made me cringe though.
