I think we need to be careful not to go overboard with this. I don't think a daily comic _can_ be spoiled. There's just no significant time investment at risk. It's not like a movie, TV show, sporting event, or a book where time will be spent immersing oneself into the story or action. It's a comic, 3 or 4 frames, a few seconds to consume the entire thing.
The "main rule" is a good rule. I'm not going to worry about spoiling a comic.
Read the comics first if you're that worried. I read other comics before reading any board discussions. Not to prevent being spoiled but so that I can get the jokes when they appear on the board. I'm also more likely to start reading a comic if lead there by a teaser or local preview joke than by, even the best, recommendation.
