In my infinite boredom... by shadowsystems2007-04-15 03:05:45
Quick thoughts from from an old architect... by rockAteer 2007-04-17 21:49:51
who also happens to be disabled.

First off, you know I'm gonna love this kind of stuff. Your boredom activity is similar to my life's work--the activity part, not the boredom part. You got good graphic and 3D visualization skills and use some interesting area adjacencies. Anyway, if you're really bored, read on.

Attempts at "helpfulness":

Don't squeeze your bathroom spaces so hard. Not only would disabled people have trouble here but so would anyone who is feeling dizzy, tipsy, sick (think stubbed toe, bruises, etc.). Open 'em up a bit.

Can't figure out the drawing scale. It appears to be one grid square equals one square foot, but then some chairs look like 12"x12". Casework looks right (and lots of it!), but some furnishings and passageways look too small (a 4'x6' bed is a bit small for a couple--I'm over 6' tall). Figure 18"x18" for small chairs, 24"x24" for office chairs, bigger for living room chairs and couches. Watch the scale of things.

Until teleportation is perfected people need real entrances/exits. A basement would likely have a stairway or some access from the outside. Think "outside the box" and how people might go to or from your plan or what's likely to be next door or outside.

IMO, pocket doors are s4; bi-parting pocket doors would be a real nuisance unless they open automatically like a supermarket's doors and that's not currently practical with small rooms. Seem like a good idea, but for now try bi-parting and/or bi-folding doors when space is tight instead.

Silly thoughts:

Would those potted plants in the Ice Home be ice plants (Carpobrotus edulis)? =P Sorry.

An architecture professor looked at one of my early efforts and commented, "There's no such thing as a hot water heater." You didn't hear it from me...no, wait!

The Funkenlivin plan is pretty good, but it'll need funkenfurniture to fit in well. Plus maybe some funkenfolk to live in it. =D

Thanks for making this stuff available to us.
