You reach for the decoy comm (you have the suspicion that nobody is buying it anyway, at this moment) and with mighty concentration you "slide between the panels", entering into system proper. You realize that the "Spider" channels do not, indeed, intersect or conjoin with the guns in any way --- which may be a mixed blessing right about now. Inside, the MG "cluster" appears to be a bunker, except the sandbags are covered in a strange copper-circuitry design, and unlike the bags in real life, present a weird pulse along each band, the various "pathways" glowing in different sequences. You recognize this as a defensive matrix, but you cannot see what it triggers. Might be best not to tinker with it. Except...
...the d4ed MG-234s are located at either end of the cluster, and it only takes you a millisecond to realize that their control paths dive into and are hidden somewhere *DEEP* within that -er- cluster of circuits and paths that you previously recognized as a defensive matrix. Not in the system for a full five seconds and already you've stirred up some fun!
In short order you discover that the MGs are tied to an IFF Biometrics Database - one way hash makes the database by itself totally useless, but the MGs can use it to determine who is on the "GO/NO-GO" list. Since you don't have an eternity to make this work, you figure on turning off the autofire routines for now. You also turn off the "auto-restart" program that you found running in the background. You know, so the guns don't recover and come back to life while you guys are tooling around in the hallways.
At this point you connect with one of the spider nets (a spider is the name they give to a rigger who runs a building. Nets = Webs, so he must be a spider) and note that your original assessment of the map down here is really accurate. Before the spider can investigate, you disconnect and leave him nothing to reach for. |
