lntellectual discussions about Americans inGermany by Garrinka2005-12-21 04:57:55
Well, I live in Heidelberg by sojawurst 2005-12-21 06:30:27
which is, as you might know, full of Americans. I have never seen anyone behave badly, but I can't really say I'll be sorry to see the army go, since we have a bad housing problem in Heidelberg, and the army takes up a lot of space. And I mean A LOT. Last thing I heard they tried to take a huge piece of land, which is now used as farming land and recreation area. It took a lot of protest to make them retreat on that one. And this leaves me with the impression that 1. it's difficult for Americans to appreciate the space problem we have in Germany (which is natural), but 2. the Army comes here with a sense of entitlement (we gave you freedom - Americans just love that word... - so you have to give us everything we ask for).

Now that's just the feeling I get from watching the news. I repeat, I have never met anyone personally who gave me that feeling.

That's my opinion (at the moment), feel free to ask or argue.
