Note: You really can stop assessing anything for/from your decoy commlink: that's all it's good for.  It exists to keep those who look for it busy: your internal handles all of the heavy work, does all the useful things.  Storywise, it's there to give those who seek it something to pay with - it keeps them distracted from your real center of operations.  Other than being a parallel trinket, it serves no other purpose.  I'd been meaning to say something about it, but it always slipped my mind.  It's sort of like mounting a laser-dot on a smartgun: neat-o, but absolutely no use to the smartgun's user.  No bonus added, but it *does* serve to show where the next shot is going.  Sometimes.  Now you know.  The decoy commlink is just that --- a decoy.  (Were you to really try focusing your interplays from your internal ware through it, you'd suffer horribly because it would be like hunting tanks at night through a straw.  Almost impossible.  Think 300 baud in a 100-base-T world for other comparisons...    ...but don't moan or shout where I can hear you, okay?  Thanks!)

It's odd, but your attention is all but riveted to that distant burning fire.  Somewhere out there, a deep bass drum has joined it, but the drumming is a slow, purposeful, almost hypnotic rhythm.  Not like KC and the Sunshine Band rhythms, but more like day/night/day rhythm.  Slow.  Purposeful.  And peaceful.  You don't get that "Weasel on Monster energy drink" edge this time, more like a "big mellow".  You feel for it, but that edge of panic has seriously been blunted, and you find that your thoughts roll freely, smoothly through your mind.  If the Fit is about the hit the Shan, it's not causing you near the concern it did mere seconds ago.  Which is good.  Or bad.  Or something.  You really can't decide.  But for now, your perceived threat levels approach zero.  Not bad.  You find it easy to track the movements of Reggie and friends, and even watch peacefully as they approach the rise of a distant hill, and disappear beyond it.  You then see what looks like it *MIGHT* be Mr. X shambling up that same hill, but for some reason he's shifting off to the right.  Seconds later it seems as if he's vanished as well - but with the fiery white nightsun blazing at your backs it's hard to tell if he doubled back and is coming this way, or if he just popped over the hill.  Moving shadows can be so confusing, sometimes.
