As a longtime IT industry techie I have seen some really great ideas come and go, often making a few people rich in the process. I have no real problem with that since generally, if something can be accomplished in hardware in one way, you can usually find another way to accomplish it and not infringe on the patent. When it comes to copyrights it becomes a bit different. As long as the laws and courts maintain the concepts and rights as outlined under "fair use" I won't really have a problem with them. I think that format changes and media changes should be permitted to me. If I purchase a song on CD I should be able to move it to an MP3 player, or a tape, or whatever technology comes along in the future for my own use.
