Make the bathrooms wheelchair friendly. Check!
I'm Insulin-Dependant Diabetic, so I get to look forward to ending my days in a wheelchair at least, a hospital bed at worst.
I've been trying to design something that would be 'chair friendly, but have been having a serious PITA-time trying to *draw* such elements as ramps, constrained to my copy of MS Paint.
I can't find a decent Architectural CAD program that is Free, easy for a n00b to use, & won't slap watermarks all over the results.
Yes, the scale is effectively 1sq:1'.
The "grid" I'm using was originally 100x100, which is rather smallish, but I figured if I can create a livable space in those constraints, anything that "needed" to be bigger could move to multiple floors.
I understand all too well about needing to make the hallways/bathrooms/beds bigger, but the only thing I had to go on (for "typical measurements" were what I'd had in my last place, so that's what everything got done to.
Pretty-much ALL of the chairs are 24"x24". The only exception to this is the "couches" which are usually 24" deep, but X feet long. But, yes, I can vary them for different sized people. (Whiner! hehehehe)
I used the measurements from my old bed (3' wide, 6' long) as a basic, and then added another foot of width for a "double". I wasn't sure how big "Queen" or "King" were, since I got so much conflicting info off the Net. =/
But I *WANT* them to teleport! =JP
Seriously, if it's an underground basement, the only real direction to go is UP, so a "door to the outside" would lead to... foundation concrete & a wall of dirt?
The only reason I was doing the pocket doors was to keep them from opening/smacking people in the areas adjacent.
I once lived in a place that, every single stinking door in the place opened in such a way that, if you were outside the door when it was opened, you basically got a door knob in the guts & a nose full of wood. I *hate* getting smacked by doors. =}
No room to maneuver, couldn't go around the door, the only option was to back-peddle QUICKLY, which usually resulted in tripping, falling on your tush, and cursing the parents of the illigitimate child who created the abominations disguised as doors. =)P
What is "Casework"? (Is amazed I've got lots of it, since I don't know what it is. Is it curable? Will I need a vaccination? Should I schedule some time with my doc for a casework-oscopy? I don't wanna go back for more poking & prodding! NOOOOOoooooo...)
=)P
Yes they're Ice Plants, now come here so I can smack you... =)P
Ok, "Water Heater" then, but the one in the garage near me has a label on it proclaiming it as a "G.E. Hot Water Heater, Model...." so PPPLLLBBBbbbbbbb..... =)P
The Funkenlivin one was literally drawn with my left hand, on a bit of scratch paper, purposely a mockery of everything I'd done thus far. I was bored out of my skull, I wasn't in the mood to get out all my drawing stuff (clear ruler, protractor, mech. pencils, erasers, various French Curves, etc) but I wanted to doodle. So I grabbed a sheet of blank paper from under the phone, & sat down at the coffee table.
About that point a VW commercial came on, and the idea hit me like a vindictive old lady swatting at "nasty brats" with her walking cane... =)P hehehehe
My email is up top, so feel free to email me with any more suggestions, tips, tricks, hints, etc you'd care to impart.
(Just make sure you put "User Friendly" somewhere in the subject so I don't accidentally filter it as spam!)
Thanks again for the advice! =)
