Moving to Kansasas via Ft. Rucker,AL ! by Garrinka2006-05-02 05:58:36
We lived in Milford when I was real little. by themadkansan 2006-05-02 11:47:09
It's north on Highway 77, about 10-15 minutes drive into JC, right next to the lake up on the northeast end. There's also Wakefield, about another 10 minutes north and east, and there are any number of little communities around that are conceivably close enough, like Riley and Leonardville up north.

From what my dad was telling me of it, they're building housing as fast as they can to make room - no idea how long it will take them to catch up to demand, though.

In the years since they moved the 1st to Germany, a lot of the more rundown and marginal housing that was in JC got torn down, either because of the flood or by city ordinances to clean stuff up. The decision to move the 1st back kinda caught them off-guard in this respect, so they're trying to deal with the sudden demand.

Oh yeah - shameless plug: since you're going to be next to the biggest freshwater lake in Kansas, you may end up wanting a boat if you don't already have one - dad's shop is on Grant Avenue, last building on the east side of the road just before you go into the base proper. He usually has several out for sale, and also works on just about anything. Also, since he's a business owner, he tends to keep up on the local scuttlebutt. :D
