I think for anyone to overcome such an addiction, is very inspiring.
I am teetotal by choice, and have been for some time. It is partly because my body does not cope very well with alcohol. I could be considered a "lightweight" by some, but alcohol has very, very severe gastrointestinal effects on me - even just a little. So I mostly avoid it. This works for me, as the only beers I ever enjoyed were fruit ones, and a juice is fine.
I have found that Soda & Lime is cheap, and allows me to still have a night out with friends, even though I am remaining sober. I don't like to preach to them, or sneer at them. I am confident to go to almost any bar and simply ask for Lime & Soda, which some places do not charge for.
SnArL, I really wish you all the best, and hope you have found coping mechanisms to be able to enjoy being out without letting alcohol tempt you. If you were a Londoner, I would suggest you join our group, who are into long Thames rambles, swimming sessions, geeky conversations and cheap Soda & Lime in bars along the route... |
