I wonder what happens when a power supply rated by Longfist 2015-02-08 17:45:48
for 36VDC input is attached to 48VDC input.  I started my final-run research before buying a couple of handfulls of hardware and discovered that the TI LMZ23610TZ/NOPB has a max input voltage of 36V.  It's going to see something on the order of 45VDC nominally, but on a good day (fully-charged) is going to see something on the order of 48V.  LMZ36, LMZ3608 didn't cross reference to anything - so I may have misapplied/misunderstood them as identifiers and am not sure where/what the name should be shortcutted into.  I know that I'll need 10 TIP2955's to cover the wattage dissipation, but that's not a problem.  Just cramming 45V into a 36VMAX voltage reg is probably going to let the smoke out, if only slowly.

Of course, I could be totally wrong about that.  I'm kinda' hoping that I am.  But for the moment I'm right back where I started, and I guess I'll just have to straight-wire this thing and hope for the best.  I've been a pain in the keister too long about this thing - and it's gotta' show some semblance of function before April 9-12 2015...  I figure it's do-able, I'm just not sure how I'm going to approach it.  My intent is to have it running on the new controller by mid-March at the latest...

The problem - the whole time - has been the 48-50 VDC input.  If it were just a simple battery swap or something, that would be fine.  But the powercell can hold more than 36V, and our test data reflects that, regardless of what it says on the label.  The school is one of those under-privileged not-well-funded schools, so they've had to do some fairly extensive dumpster-diving and such just to get parts to build these things.  We're heroes in their eyes in that we'll take the time (and I'll spend the money) to get them up and running.  Sometimes I forget that there are still people out there in the world like that, since I escaped the 'hood back in 1989.  Maybe in my mind's eye I'd like to think that everybody else managed to escape when I did, but that's just ludicrous...

Still - a rousing success for us/we here at UF!  I'm still researching something to put on the car to illuminate you'se guys' involvement.  Something more than a simple "Thanks", because that's just too insufficient.  It doesn't come close to indicating the work you guys have done on my behalf - I cannot thank you guys enough!  I *know* I've not been easy to deal with during this process: my ignorance has been quite a bear, and quite possibly makes me hard to deal with.  (Sorry about that, too.)

Want to meet up?  LongFist will be in Detroit, Michigan, from April 9-12, 2015.  Going to be a party, ya'll!
