They have somehow linked my student financial aid to my draft registration status: a new concept for me. I have apparently lost my draft card since I am no longer near the age when they might call me up. Of course, ASU runs everything on autopilot (I'm beginning to see where I'm going to have troubles, being an older online student) so it resolutely expects me to provide proof of a registration that took place 28 years ago. I have since engaged the Financial Aid office directly, and they're playing the "autosystem" game. As I told my advisor earlier, your computer systems aren't as smart as you think they are, and "I'm the computer whisperer". He chuckled at that. I'm not sure he realized what I was saying. More as the situation develops: We're well beyond the point where my Selective Service Registration will have any bearing on anything. Guilford College recognized that up front, and we had no difficulties with that at all. Arizona State University's Financial Aid department seems to want to hide behind walls of red tape. Red tape is flammable, my friends. I wonder if they realize that...
