NTSGM is "NOT THE SAMEGAME MULTIPLAYER"
If you don't know what 'samegame' is:
Here's a nice comprehensive site for an Amiga port
Here's a Javascript implementation
Here's a CGI+HTTP implementation
A project contrived by two mWare.ca users after a few rounds of cstrike & wormsArmageddon... we were too tired to concentrate on any game that was mentally demanding, yet weren't sleepy enough to log off. so we decided we needed a brainless game that's multiplayer but doesn't require any speed/agility to play (that's because I suck at railgun in Q1,2,3 :)
Question became, what game? and is there such a thing? Yahoo games & the like didn't provide what we wanted and pretty much weren't multiplayer. (plus I don't usually like playing public servers because there's enough punks out there to make 50% of the servers you play on very unfun!) So the nullman being a comp.sci grad, and myself being a JS/WWW/XUL/Mozilla guru, we decided... we're too tired to play something, but not tired enough to develop a new game server & client :)
So... again... what game?! Connect4? BattleShip? Lines? TicTacToe?
Personally - I love samegame, my Palm Vx's screen is worn with my playing style because *THAT*s my boredom relief. Oddly, I only play it on palm... seldom on *NIX and *NEVER* in WinBlows... of course, since we're *NIXIOTS (comparable to nVidiots) (Solaris & Slackware myself) we knew it had to be a multiplatform client (server is going to be linux period".") and I love Mozilla, so it fits the bill nicely. (And we're OpenSource types too)
But how do you make same game multiplayer? I originally thought maybe you could select a colour and try to eliminate the other player's or vice-versa. But it seemed kludgy. So we never settled on it.
So after about 2 weeks of trying to figure out what game to do, I posted this message to UF, and then while waiting for a reply, pretty much finished off the idea for a multiplayer samegame. Simpler than above, easier to implement, but still leaves alot of room to make mods/added challenges. |
