| | [WebDiva D] WISHING UFIES EVERYWHERE YULETIDE GREETINGS | Date:Fri Dec 14 13:50:11 2001 |
It started on a whim 3 years ago when Elf WebDiva requested a UF-decorated tree by the cartoonist and then put out the call for the many ways to say "Seasons Greetings, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year" etc. from around the world. The response was amazing! And the fact that each year since UFies email us in December requesting the UF Tree is about the best present this lil' Elf could ever receive. So here it is, the 2001 version of the UF Tree...click on the thumbnail to view the full size image. We won't be adding any more to the image but please do use the comments for this news item to send your personal best wishes to UFies everywhere. And from those of us at UF we wish everyone all the best this holiday season and peace in the coming year.

| [Illiad] CHARTER MEMBERSHIPS WITHOUT USING PAYPAL | Date:Fri Dec 14 09:36:54 2001 |
We now have things set up so that you can send in a cheque or money order to purchase a Charter Membership instead of using PayPal. Just sign up as usual; the page after the Service Agreement will give you an option to either proceed with PayPal or to just print out the page with your details. Please make cheques or money orders payable to User Friendly Media Inc. The page and your payment should be mailed to: User Friendly Media Inc C/O # 210 435 Columbia Street New Westminster, BC V3L 5N8 Canada And that's it! Obviously, until we receive the payment and it clears, your account won't be activated as a paying member. Thank you to everyone who has supported us thus far, and to those who suggested alternatives. By the time membership services are implemented we hope to have some other ways of payment hammered out. [update by Yohimbe] Note that we need a mailing address in our database to send a membership card, so filling out the membership form is still required.

| [Illiad] THE GOOD KIND OF TROLLS | Date:Wed Dec 12 21:35:36 2001 |
"The only good troll is a Dead Troll," has never been more true. If you've never heard of them before, Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie is a top Canadian comedy troupe known for their acerbic and amusing takes on everything from the famous Internet Helpdesk Skit to the melodious and axiomatic Every OS Sucks. Sharp-eyed UFies will recognize one of the founders, Wes Borg, as being the fine chap who came out to UF's 3rd Anniversary Bash and put on the Helpdesk skit for us to much applause and laughter. And now, the Dead Trolls are onto something even cooler. Right here is where you can find details on the Dead Trolls proposal to the CBC for a pilot television project called "Roach-Clips". To help them land the deal, a boost in traffic at their mp3.com page would most certainly be useful. Not only will you be helping one of the best comedy acts secure a new television series, you'll also get to see and hear some laugh-riot material while you're at it. Open about my bias: I consider Wes a pal, and I very much enjoy his work. I'd love to see these guys get back on the air. So, if you have a minute, why not help out and have a few laughs. Thanks. :)

| [Illiad] DEAL SIGNED WITH PLAN NINE FOR NEXT UF BOOK | Date:Wed Dec 12 00:31:52 2001 |
The friendly folks over at Plan Nine Publishing have inked a deal with me to publish a book titled User Friendly 1.0 for late in the first quarter of 2002. The book will feature all of the early strips that didn't appear in the first UF book as well as a look at never-seen-before strips and ideas while UF was in its infancy. The book will also be threaded by commentary and notes about the development of User Friendly as a cartoon strip and as a burgeoning online community of like-minded mildly off-centre individuals. You know who you are. :) I'm working on the manuscript even now, so if you have any particular interests in UF that you'd like to see covered in the book, by all means let me know. No promises, but I'll certainly consider everything sent in. Also, don't forget that I'll be hanging out with the Plan Nine folks and some of my favourite cartoonists in Raleigh, N.C. in January. Scroll down for details.

| [Illiad] A WAY TO HELP USERFRIENDLY.ORG AND GET THE WARM AND FUZZIES: CHARTER MEMBERSHIPS | Date:Tue Dec 11 15:19:14 2001 |
Over the next few months, UF will be implementing a completely optional subscription service. As a subscriber, you'll have access to an ad-free UF. Additionally, all subscribers will be automatically entered into a a free prize draw. Over time, we'll be looking into adding more features and benefits to subscriptions such as e-mailing members the Daily Static, providing additional discounts and other surprises. You can sign up here Note that you're not being forced to subscribe. You'll still be able to read the cartoon for free and we won't take away anything that we currently give to you. And as usual, any information we collect remains protected by our strict privacy policy. We'll care for your information the same way we want ours to be cared for. Before we implement the Subscription Service, we're offering a one-time thing: a User Friendly Charter Membership. The Charter Membership will give you a twelve month standard subscription, beginning from the first day that the subscription service is deployed, (late Feb/early March is our target for roll out) plus a Charter Member ID card adorned with original UF art. On top of that, your name is included on a permanent Charter Members List on the site for all to see in total glory. The cost of the Charter Membership is a one-time US $ 39.95 Charter Memberships will only be made available for a short time. Once we close that door, that's it--we won't be accepting any others. You can buy them for yourself, or for a friend or loved one, the more the merrier! Once the Charter Membership is closed, a regular Subscription Membership will be offered. The price of a monthly Membership will be US $ 2.95, which calculates out to less than ten cents a day. You won't get the snazzy Member ID card, you won't get your name in lights but you will get entered in the monthly draw and that warm and fuzzy feeling from helping out your UF community center. Update: As per quizme's suggestion in the comments, I will indeed be hand signing each Charter Membership card. Thanks quizme! Once again I offer my thanks to my audience: the kind of audience that I'm sure every cartoonist wished he or she had.
