| WELCOME, SILICON VALLEY 09:53 PST 02 OCT 1998 Looks like some kind soul submitted the site URL to the San Jose Mercury News Online; we're mentioned in Good Morning Silcon Valley. One thousand thank-yous to whoever did the submitting, and thanks to Kane for pointing me at this. FAN ART WINNER FOR SEPT 98 09:20 PST 02 OCT 1998 We had some great entries this month, enough that it made it really hard to choose which one was the best. So, I fell back on my failsafe -- which entry made me laugh the most? The Many Faces of the Dust Puppy by DBrown; I really love the middle one! D, you need to write me so you can claim your t-shirt. Folks, if you haven't been by our fledgling Fan Art area yet, you should drop by and see what's there, and maybe submit something yourself. USER FRIENDLY GOES INTERNATIONAL 09:11 PST 02 OCT 1998 I thought for sure that if User Friendly was translated, the first language other than English would be German (most hits from a European country). Guess what? It's in Portugese! You can view the first translation of a UF strip over at Recortes, a Portugese on-line magazine by Miguel Vitorino. Thanks for all of your hard work Miguel! SURVEY SAYS II 09:00 PST 02 OCT 1998 In case it wasn't already obvious, there's a User Friendly Survey up and running until the end of October. Entrants get a chance to win one of three coveted User Friendly t-shirts, and one of those people will also get a caricature of themselves drawn by yours truly. The reason for the questions on the survey: demographics. No, entrants will not be on some lame-ass, ichor-dripping spam mailing list. I hate spam. The demographic information collected is to help attract funding for the site.

LINK SUBMISSIONS 10:06 PST 01 OCT 1998 Keep those link submissions coming! I have room for a couple of links pretty much every day of the week, so if you have a particularly cool or hilarious site that you think is worth sharing, send the URL to links@userfriendly.org. 'SAJBERSPACE' 10:03 PST 01 OCT 1998 Here's the skinny on the mention of User Friendly on the Swedish television show Sabjer; you can find the site at http://www.filmpoint.se/sajber/topp5/topp5.html, and it looks like User Friendly got the #1 spot. One thousand thank-yous to the Scandinavians who honoured the site with a mention on their program, and thanks to Sune Stjerneby for pointing me at the URL.

DOH! BUG IN THE CODE 10:11 PST 30 SEP 1998 Thanks to everyone who wrote in about the busted mailto: link on the Daily Static that led to book@userfriendly.org. I'm gratified to see that it didn't stop some of you from writing in. I'll go back to my corner now. SCANDINAVIA AIRS USER FRIENDLY 10:07 PST 30 SEP 1998 Rolf Thomassen from Denmark writes: "I just watched swedish TV1 last night, and on the program Sajber (Cyber directly traslated to swedish) and your site was on the show on a Top 5 list of URL to visit. They told about your comic-strip, and about the characters in the strip. So now you are famous in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, as STV1 are seen in Sweden, Norway and Denmark." Thanks for the heads up, Rolf. If anyone can send me a video clip of that part of the show, you're on my Christmas list.

INK IS STILL BETTER THAN ELECTRONS 11:10 PST 29 SEP 1998 In this day and age of instant e-mail, the written letter has gone by the wayside for many people. Imagine my surprise at getting an actual, handwritten letter from a UFie. It was a simple thank-you note for the comic strip and a t-shirt that the writer had won. I was really humbled. Thanks for the snailmail -- you know who you are. A BOOK! A BOOK! MY KINGDOM FOR A BOOK! 11:03 PST 29 SEP 1998 Still want that User Friendly collection in a printed book? You can give the publishers a nudge by sending a brief e-mail to them telling them that you'd really like to see User Friendly in book form. Tell them how much you want one, and how many other people you know that would buy one, if you like. Just send e-mail to book@userfriendly.org and your letter will be forwarded on to the book publisher. I appreciate any help you can give me in this. Thanks all, and thanks to Gurney for getting this ball rolling.

THE SCREENING ROOM 16:46 PST 28 SEP 1998 Sorry for the late news item; I spent today over at Dotto's Data Cafe, or their studios to be more precise. Loads of cool stuff over there, and Steve Dotto and his crew (Jeff and Kim) were fun to meet. We're in the preliminary stages of discussing the idea of putting User Friendly on his show. Animations of some of the strips, etc. I'll let you know more when I know something myself. :)
