UH...OOPS!
12:01 PST 09 JAN 1999
If anyone placed an order for t-shirts between Monday, January 4 1999 and Friday, January 8 1999 (until about 3:00PM PST), your order did not go through. There was some weirdness going on with the database and the info got squished. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. If you still want a Dust Puppy t-shirt, please place your order again. If you're not sure if the order went through, please write Josette directly -- she'll be able to answer you.

LOONYGAMES INTERVIEW
12:03 PST 08 JAN 1999
Okay, it's up. "Bobbi" Bergman, associate editor at loonygames interviewed yours truly for their Community Profile column today. And while you're there, check out the rest of their site. It's pretty spiff stuff if you're into computer games.

AND THE WINNERS ARE...
12:01 PST 08 JAN 1999
Dennis M. and Geri W., the intrepid UFie Booth Team at Comdex Canada West! Thanks to everyone who wrote in to volunteer, but when it came down to it I had to pick randomly from the five people who could pull the entire show. I'll be at Comdex myself on Tuesday for certain, but if you're dropping by the exhibit floor please stop by the Buy & Sell Online booth (where we're sharing space) and say hello!

COMDEX VOLUNTEERS IN THE BAG
12:07 PST 07 JAN 1999
My thanks for writing in to all of the people who volunteered for the User Friendly Comdex booth. I'll be putting the names in a hat and contacting those who get drawn. You should be aware that the booth staff will be meeting around 8:30AM Monday morning (that's the 11th, first day of the show) for a breakfast to firm up times and other sundry booth-type items. Yes, we'll pick up the tab on breakfast. :-)

UFIE VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS
12:03 PST 07 JAN 1999
Update: I have about forty-odd more volunteer applications to get through, so if you wrote in offering to help and haven't heard back, please bear with me. What with half a dozen projects on the go for UF alone, as well as my day job committments, it'll take me a little time to get through this. Thanks for understanding folks.

THE WEBRING, SHE IS WORKING
12:00 PST 07 JAN 1999
Here's another letter from Mark Leaver, the UFie who has arranged the User Friendly Web Ring:

Hi again. Due to sufficient interest in the webring, I decided to proceed with it and got it up and running last night. it can be found at http://ufies.userfriendly.org/~ufwebring. Join in and spread the cheer and fun of User Friendly to the rest of the world...

Kudos to Mark Leaver for getting the Webring up and running so quickly!

USER FRIENDLY AT COMDEX CANADA WEST
12:02 PST 06 JAN 1999
January 11 to 13, Vancouver B.C. We'll be sharing a booth with Buy & Sell Online for all three days of Comdex in Vancouver. We also need two enthusiastic UFies to help us man the booth during the exhibition. You'll be talking about UF, showing people the cartoon (we'll have a machine there with the entire archive on the hard drive), and generally showing the Vancouver tech community how cool UFies really are. In exchange you get a t-shirt, a hat (when they become available), a daily parking allowance, a daily lunch allowance, and a wrap-up dinner Wednesday night with a really weird cartoonist. You have to arrange your own floor pass, but they're free. The last day to register online is today, so you'd better get cracking or you'll be waiting in the line-up at the exhibition. If you can seriously commit to this, write me and we'll arrange a meeting for all concerned. It oughta be fun!

WEBRING REQUEST
12:00 PST 06 JAN 1999
Here's a letter from Mark Leaver, a UFie who would like to start up a UF Web Ring:

I am thinking of setting up a webring for the sole purpose of linking all the webpages of ufies around the world and would like to get some feedback from the ufies out there who are interested. Plus it would bring a few more of the non-geeks out there into to the world of User Friendly.

If anyone who would be interested in joining the webring if I set it up, please send me an email at either: dramoth@hotmail.com or dramoth@vianet.net.au

NOT AS BAD AS THE FURBY FRENZY
01:07 PST 05 JAN 1999
...but it still surprises me. I have an offer from a recently-converted UFie on the table. He wants one of "The Gang" User Friendly t-shirts (of which only fifty were made) in excellent condition (never worn, never washed), preferably in XL, but any size will do. He'll pay US$150.00 for the shirt. If you have one you're seriously willing to sell, write me and I'll put you in touch with him.

AND THE NEXT UFIE ITEM OF APPAREL IS...
01:12 PST 05 JAN 1999
...a baseball cap. Yes, we're working on a design now. I was thinking the Dust Puppy with the words UFies Rock in a semi-circle around his head. What do you think? Any better ideas? Start up or join a conversation on this in the Friendly Forum under Product Discussion. I'll pay attention. Alternatively, you could write me and tell me your thoughts on this privately.

NOT MAN OF THE YEAR BUT...
10:16 PST 04 JAN 1999
We got a serious mention in TIME Digital today, as well as reference to the Dust Puppy making an appearance on the TIME Man of the Year online poll. The writer, Lev Grossman, admits to being a huge UFie himself. That's so cool. UFie fans in the big media companies. :-) Thanks, Lev!

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS
01:06 PST 04 JAN 1999
So what did you resolve for 1999? The folks over at Gamers Digest asked a bunch of people including yours truly and posted these intimate bits of fluff for all to see, a portal into the demented psyches of some of the luminaries (and then there's this cartoonist) of the gaming community. Me, I'm just glad the Y2K bug didn't kick in on Jan 1 because of some lame one-off error.

WELCOME ABOARD, IAMBE!
01:04 PST 04 JAN 1999
If you look over to the right of this page you'll see a new column being featured on the Daily Static: Iambe, Intimate and Interactive is devoted to answering complaints and questions about UF, life, love, the universe and everything that the geek community might ponder, all from a female geek's perspective. You can send your letter directly to her at iambe@userfriendly.org. All of her letters will be archived in the Community section, where you can also view the mandate of the column and a brief bio on Iambe herself. Get your mail applications going!

WE'RE BAAAAAAAACK
01:00 PST 04 JAN 1999
Welcome back to the real world! I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday, but now we're back to the grind of daily wage making. I made the mistake of taking a couple of days off over Christmas and Boxing Day, and sure enough, I was told by a few dozen people that this was simply not acceptable. Don't beat me master. I'll be good from now on.
