To the amazing UF support and creative team at the home office: barno, Lurch, TikTok and san|ty: wh00t! no pool noodle pummeling for you guys for at least a week! To Ardaniel, Bugged, Godmoma, Dr_Stein...our SFBay UFies and San Jose logistics wizards...*huggles* you guys so rawk for helping us out in every way possible. Special thanks to Arcterex, Trillian, BFB, Jeremy, Cathy, Sarah and Mike...UFies extraordinaire who pitched in with such enthusiasm that it brought tears to our eyes.

Martin of Andover/OSDN, and Kelli and Ed of Maximum Linux: words cannot express our gratitude for your gracious contribution of mirror and bandwidth assistance for the animation.

[Kethryvis] LWE SHOW WRAP UP PART 1Date:Fri Aug 18 13:35:12 2000
Whew!!

I'm one of the first home, and I have to say that LWE was a total blast this year! We met a lot of great UFies, had a great time, and got really tired! :)

About 50 UFies showed up for our UFie meet on Wednesday, and we had a fabulous time. We almost slashdotted a pizza place since they weren't quite prepared for that many folks all at once... but it all worked out. Then we went to the VALinux party for the under-21 crowd at a local coffee house and had a great time there. Big major thanks go out to UFies Ryan and James who very graciously gave Iambe and I a lift back to our hotel! "Its a good Ryan what does that!"

I also have to give great big huge thanks to my Dust Puppy wearers, Cathy, Sarah , Mike and Jeremy. Jeremy, bless his heart, was volunteered by friends to wear the costume, and wore it most of Wednesday and for over half an hour on Friday for a press conference. He was there representing LinuxPower.org which is a Linux news site. Great site and be sure to check it out. Great big huge Puppy thanks to Jeremy and more thanks to Cathy and Sarah and Mike!

I also want to thank Ciannait and Godmoma who helped man our booth throughout the show, and all the other UFies who came by to hang out. If I listed everyone here, not only would I forget people but the list would just get *way* long. :) Suffice to say, there were tons of UFies there and I couldn't have been happier.

Next year promises to be even better, so we'll see you all in New York City!

Howdy gang from the floor at LWE... WOW is this show big. Muy bigger than last year. [Iambe] SCHWAG FROM THE SHOW FLOORDate:Tue Aug 15 12:52:53 2000
I would like to thank WebDivaD (oh she is a luscious Diva) for her perspective of show floor life(the place is packed with people just like me - woohoo!) here at LinuxWorld Expo. The Dust Puppy ("what a good Puppy which does that") has been out and about (I could not imagine trodding about with size 436 feet) and the booth is packed with UFies (people I know by nick and not name) having fun and trying hard to put together Lego Battle Droids. It is wonderful to be having such a good time(collecting so much schwag) in Sunny CA.

Just a quick reminder that we are hosting a UFies(also known as get loaded with Iambe) gathering (meet, greet and wreak havoc) tomorrow night here in San Jose(but only if you know the way). We are all meeting at the User Friendly booth tomorrow night at show closing. Any questions, ask your local clergy.

[Yohimbe] SCOOP! LOKI TO ANNOUNCE DEUS EX BETA FOR LINUX!Date:Mon Aug 14 16:45:34 2000
You heard it here first.. I was at the booth setting up and Scott Draeker of Loki fame told me that they are announcing the Beta test of their port of Deus Ex for Linux. I have a photo of one of the staff members playing it while I watched. I got to play it as well. Quick review: Very smooth motion, minor sound glitches, simply gorgeous graphics. And since its my first view of Deus Ex, my review of the game is: Too cool, FPS action, but a Real story, Real RPG game play. ScreenShot:

[Illiad] SLATE OF THE ONIONDate:Mon Aug 14 00:41:50 2000
As promised, here's my weekly kick-off post.

Sunday, August 13th was the one-thousandth User Friendly cartoon to be published on the Web. I'm not sure what that means, other than I probably need a life. :)

Most of the gang from the UF offices are now in San Jose in preparation for Linux World Expo, so if you've e-mailed WebDiva or Yohimbe or Kethryvis or any of the fine folks who I've tricked into indentured servitude, it may be a few days before they get back to you. If it's urgent, you can always write to info@userfriendly.org and someone at the office should be able to reach them. I'll be joining the gang briefly on Thursday.

As usual, I'm really looking forward to meeting people at the show, but this time around I have a very limited schedule. I'll be at the UF booth for, at most, an hour. There's no scheduled book signing, but if you see me at the show, and you'd like something signed, please don't be afraid to approach me. It has always been and always will be my pleasure to say hello and hear what you have to say! Tell me I made you laugh at least once and it'll brighten my day. And you can lie if you're feeling generous. ;)

Finally, you still have a chance to sign up for our monthly newsletter. I'm quite sure we don't have anything about How To Make Money Fast Without Credit Or Porn in it. And of course, I insisted that we created the newsletter from recycled electrons.

I hope you have a great week!
