| [WebDiva D] FRIENDLY FORUM MEMBERS GET CREATIVE | Date:Sun Oct 1 14:29:42 2000 |
| They don't know it, but I quietly poke around Friendly Forum on a regular basis (it's one more way to keep up with the Community) and when I went visiting today I found that the members are getting quite active in a Virtual Text Adventure. It's worth the read...and why oh why am I not surprised that the ringleader in this endeavor is the amazing Capt.X?!

| [WebDiva D] OH MY GOODNESS... | Date:Sun Oct 1 13:07:14 2000 |
| Do I feel special and loved! Thank you so much to all the UFies from around the world who sent me birthday ecards, virtual serenades, huggles and best wishes in several languages. Overwhelming, and absolutely made my day (made me cry too, for that matter). I was swamped with mail --the server did not fall down-- and yes, I read every single one! Your kind words and encouragement to keep up the good work are greatly cherished. To my fabulous co-workers at UFMI: you are the best. To my dearlings Iambe and Illiad: your turns are in November and December I believe. kiss kiss ;-P

| [Kethryvis] IN CASE YOU DIDN'T SEE IT BEFORE... | Date:Fri Sep 29 12:25:15 2000 |
| We're running a POLL to see who is interested in attending our 3rd Anniversary party. All the information on the party is down a bit on this page in another posting, so I won't retype it all... but if you want to attend/hold a party you REALLY need to go register in the poll so we know how many people to plan for. If we don't get a good response to the poll we can't throw the kind of party we want, so if you want to get involved, tell us in the poll! There have also been some questions over the "I'm coming into Vancouver but I don't need a place to crash" scenario, and what catagory to vote yourself into. Vote yourself into the "I live in Vancouver and would like to attend the party" catagory. We're trying to get counts to take to hotels and places to see what kind (if any) of discount we can get for you. So what are you waiting for?! Go to the poll and vote!!

| [Illiad] HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEBDIVA! | Date:Thu Sep 28 12:28:10 2000 |
| A big happy birthday to my pal and our webmistress WebDiva! She's probably going to kill me for doing this but hey, it's a calculated risk. ;) I believe she's now *29*. Saying that might earn me a Get Out Of Jail Free card. :) And if you have a moment, please drop her a line and wish her a happy birthday!

| Just got easier. Our new Cartoon Search engine is complete, including all storylines, dialogue and characters. Huge thanks to Nick for the original search and data, huge huggles to san|ty for data grooming and daily entry, huge thanks to ke Software for the slickest text search engine. Cartoon Search can be found in the blue lozenge nav, and in the classic cartoon archive nav alongside the big pencils. We've also rearranged the News and LOTD Archive pages so that their search functions are at the top of the page. Now all you Static Cling Trivia contest participants have an edge...

| [Kethryvis] BOUND FOR THE LAND OF COKE-A-COLA... | Date:Wed Sep 27 16:59:18 2000 |
| In case you haven't heard, us UF'ers are headed down to the Annual Linux Showcase in Atlanta, GA Oct 12-14. Myself and the darling WebDiva will be manning the UF booth, along with some UFies who were sucke--er, who *volunteered* to sla--er.. work for us at the booth. Also, the Illustrious Illiad will be making several apperances at our booth to hang out with our UFies. I'm just looking forward to being in Atlanta so I can get some *real* Coke, as I think the stuff here in Canada tastes funny. We're also planning a UFie meet for the Friday of the show.. the oh-so-spooky Friday the 13th! So be sure to cruise by our booth for more details, and/or just keep your eyes glued here on the Static for more details as they come up. See you there!

| [sanity] IT'S ALMOST FRAG TIME | Date:Wed Sep 27 12:14:10 2000 |
Just a reminder to those of you entering the Quake skins, levels and models contest- the deadline for entries is October 11. Loki Entertainment is offering games of the winners choice as prizes and Illiad has signed a whack load of books as well. Go to the Contest Details page to find out the specifics. There are lots of aids out there to help you get your entries in on time including Loki's new level editor for Linux. Their Linux SDK, includes the Linux port of id's Q3radiant. Using Linux SDK, users can replace textures, shaders and entities, create and edit maps, and even create DLLs and QVM files for mods. I can't wait to see the UF carnage!

| [Kethryvis] PARTY ON, UFIES! | Date:Mon Sep 25 14:25:51 2000 |
| Do you know what happens on November 17? On that illustrious date, User Friendly turns 3. Needless to say, we're really excited, and we can't believe that we're about to hit our third year. So what better way to celebrate than a party? The first UF anniversary saw a QuakeFest thrown by a local Vancouver UFie. The second year saw an IRC party, which made #userfriendly swell to over 150 people. This year, we want to have a real live party. And everyone is invited! We'll be having an actual physical party here in Vancouver, BC on November 17. Anyone and everyone is invited, so if you are not in Vancouver but have some extra time, feel free to fly up! We really want to meet as many UFies as possible. We're working on deals for you if you're coming in from out of town, for cheaper airfares and places to crash. And if you can't come up to Vancouver, don't fret! First off, we'll have a live IRC feed thru the party, and lots of UF personalities manning the IRC con. We'll also be web casting the entire event, so you can see the zanyness that will ensue. AND... we want all of you to throw your own UFie meets! Throw your own party, bring a web cam along and celebrate with us. Tell us where your webfeed will come from, and we'll have it showing at our party as well. For those in Vancouver, we'll have door prizes, trivia prizes, a Q&A with Illiad, and lots of other surprises. For everyone celebrating elsewhere, all of this will be visable on the web cam. We're also working on some perks for those of you hosting UFie meets. So we want to get an idea of how many people to plan for, and how many other people will be holding their own soirees. So if you're interested in celebrating with us, head over to our poll. Let us know what you're planning on doing, so we can plan a fun evening for everyone, inside or outside of Vancouver. The poll runs through Sunday, so get your votes in!
