It's the long weekend so I don't expect many people will be at home reading this, but for those who are, everyone here at User Friendly wishes you a great long weekend. News items will continue seriously flowing again come Tuesday.

| Skjalm Arrĝe sent this in: Greetings from Denmark! Here at our dorm (located near the Technical University of Denmark) we recently got a new server... nothing fancy, just a replacement for our old router/mailserver. I'm sure you can imagine our surprise when we opened the machine to install a few netcards and found nothing less than a real, live Dust Puppy :-) More images can be found at: http://www.ostenfeld.dk/~steellynx/dustpuppy/

| RECRUITMENT DRIVE CLOSES FRIDAY | Date:Wed Sep 1 20:15:07 1999 |
Well, so far we've been deluged with offers of assistance, and by some VERY nice people!! Not to mention talented, dedicated, and interesting. In any case, the recruitment drive ends Friday, when the choices will be made, so get your offer in if you really want to help us at the booth. My thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to apply for the spots.

| RECRUITMENT DRIVE: BOOTH STAFF FOR ATLANTA | Date:Mon Aug 30 20:42:43 1999 |
So, now that you know we'll be at the Atlanta Linux Showcase, maybe you'd like to give us a hand? I already have a couple of motivated volunteers for the show, but seeing as the show is more than a couple days long, we're going to need more people to fill the schedule slots. So. If you're keen, have lots of energy, can find your way to Atlanta, and are willing to work the booth, we'll get you a room (although you will likely have to share) and pick up your food tab. Oh yeah, and we'll award you with a hat and shirt and probably other goodies. Does this excite your glands? Drop me a line and let me know why you're so cool. :) Thanks in advance to everyone who applies, but for obvious reasons I'll only be able to get in touch with the people who are selected.

| (WEB DIVA D) THIS IS A TEST FROM THE UF BROADCASTING SYSTEM | Date:Mon Aug 30 11:34:58 1999 |
You are not seeing things, your monitor does not need adjusting. Indeed, the widths have been tampered with on the Daily Static and Cartoon Archives pages. For all the good UFies who hate those fixed with tables, we are trying out the relative width version this week. If all goes well, the format will be applied to the entire site. So, let me know how the page works on your personal viewing apparatus: Page too wide? Page just right? Want those fixed width tables back? Throughout the week I'll be testing the format suggestions and might just apply yours to the live site. BTW sending format suggestions via Illiad will gain you no grace, they must be sent directly to theWeb Diva.
