...I'm leaving today, for New York of course, with apologies to Ms. Minelli. I'll be in the Big Apple on the show floor of The Bazaar on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, although I'm not yet certain at what hours. I'll definitely be at the User Friendly booth for at least an hour for each of those days to do signings. Come on by! The volunteers manning the booth are a friendly, strange and entertaining bunch, and I'm lucky to have them there helping me out. Once I get set up, I'll be posting a report from the floor about the show.

Be advised that mail will take a little longer for me to catch up on while I'm gone. I won't be back in Vancouver until a week today, so please be patient. If it's really, really, really urgent, make note of that in the subject header and I'll try to get to your email first. Now I just have to figure out how to go comatose for the six-hour flight. :)

We finally have the Dust Puppy plush dolls in our hot little hands! I suspect that shipments likely won't make it in time for Christmas, but we will do our best. Questions regarding shipments etc. should be directed to the folks handling merchandise for us at josettev@paralynx.com.

Meantime, visit the UF Store to check out the little guy.

I am *such* a softie.

Please put Stef back on the tree. Sure he's a dork, but he looks really sad down there. And it's Christmas. Thanks!
-CRroot
I know Stef Murky is an annoying snot, but in the spirit of the season (and to save the necks of lusers who like seeing what's on my wallpaper) could you tilt him upright or lean him on the tree trunk? Maybe take a crack out of the ball to compensate *chuckle*
-Krinsh

Tis the Season...Stef is back on the tree.

And for all the UFies who have sent me Xmas translations, fear not! I am not ignoring or abandoning you. They will be placed about the tree when the gang's letters are finished. Many many thanks to the 250+ UFies who have sent in translations.

NEW YORK DIALUPDate:Thu Dec 9 14:39:34 1999
Next week I'll be at The Bazaar and will likely have need for a local dialup. Does anyone have recommendations? I only need it for the week (until the 19th). I'll be dialing from a hotel near the conference centre.

Anyway, do drop me a line if you think you can help. Thanks!

We three babes of UFiverse are,
bearing mirth we spread it afar
garden, irc, web and community
polishing Illiad's star

(Chorus)
Oooohooooh,
*.* of wonder,
*.* of smite,
*.* of double entendre bright,
Illiad leading, manly chest beating,
guide us to thy perfect website

Born of server on phat T3 pipe,
my Garden I tend for UFie delight,
Goddess, ever; boring, never
banter, complaints, advice
(Chorus)
Community to manage have I
co-ordinating UFies on nigh
locating, meeting, cheerleading, greeting
and expo booth queen besides
(Chorus)
Web is mine, tis long hours I toil
just to be that wacky guy's foil
formatting, sighing, re-typing, trying
to bring order to turmoil

Oooohooooh,
*.* of wonder,
*.* of smite,
*.* of double entendre bright,
Illiad leading, manly chest beating,
guide us to thy perfect website

THANK YOU EVERYONE!Date:Tue Dec 7 20:36:25 1999
My thanks to the many wonderful folks who wrote in or sent me a postcard wishing me a happby birthday! I was pretty sure I had it kept nice and secret, and then certain unnamed individuals took it upon themselves to let the entire 'Net know that today was the day, many many moons ago, that I came into this world with mischief on my mind.

Needless to say, those unnamed individuals had best take up long-distance running.

For the record, I'm old enough to know better but young enough not to care. :)

Keth: "Wait! We can't say mare for Illiad."
Iambe: "Gelding, then."
Keth: "I am not sure about that, and I know I don't want to find out!"
WebDiva: "Well, how about we switch to 'For He's a Jolly Good Fellow'?"
Iambe: "I am sure he's a fellow..."
Keth: " I can live with that..."
WebDiva: "And 'jolly good'?"
The ladies ponder a moment.
"The old grey mare he ain't what he used to be many long years agoooo!!!"

Happy Birthday, Illiad! We LUB you! xxxx

[IAMBE, Grand Empress of the Galacticack Forces] Happy Birthday Illiad!Date:Tue Dec 7 11:14:40 1999
I suppose I am risking death and greater unpleasantries by noting that today is indeed the anniversary of the noble birth of our glorious leader. Best wishes go out to Illiad today as he celebrates another orbit. It is of note that in lieu of candles on his birthday cake, we went with the effeciency angle and bought a tiger torch. This torch will provide the same output (some 20K BTU) as the number of requisite candles for this auspicious event.

Please take a moment to email Illiad with a birthday greeting or two. Tell him Her Supreme Royal Imperious Cackness told you to.

L'IL GUY HITS THE BIG TIMEDate:Mon Dec 6 02:31:21 1999
A great many of us know that Quake3: Arena has been released. Well, sure enough, the fine folks at id Software have hidden the Dust Puppy in a couple of the levels! Over the weekend I was bombarded with an avalanche of mail about this, so I'm going to head the rest of it off at the pass and include a couple of the scores of reports of Dust Puppy sightings:

SURPRISE! Dust Puppy is now (even more) famous! If you have Quake3:Arena, start a multiplayer server on map Q3DM19. Get the "Flight" powerup that's on the level, and fly under the main platforms... Look under them... there's a big picture of the Dust Puppy there!

On the underside of two of the most sadistic jumping maps ever created (q3dm19 and q3dm16), resides the smiling image of Dustpuppy. So the next time you're falling to your doom after mis-stepping on a jump pad, take a look up and see if you can spot him.

Thanks to everyone who wrote in with the reports, and special thanks to John Carmack and the rest of the id Software crew for the minor tribute to the fuzzball!
