TODAY, THE AMULET OF YENDOR; TOMORROW, THE WORLD! I've been informed that there's a Worldwide Nethack Tournament under way, and all comers are welcome! This in from Matt Bandy. Thanks Matt!
RSS FEEDS 'R A TRICKSY BUSINESS: I've received quite a number of polite requests for a UF RSS feed (and some very not-so-polite ones) in the last several months. Rest assured the polite requests aren't falling on deaf ears! The issue is, of course, the fact that people who are less-than-honest can easily strip out the banner ads -- which leads me to also working on the idea of a paid RSS feed which is ad-free. I can definitely offer the former, and I'd like to offer the latter. Please give me a bit of time. I hope to have this solved early in the new year.
And because it always deserves to be said: thank you to everyone who supports UF either by buying memberships, by viewing the ads, and/or by helping spread the UF Productivity Virus!
A CONTRACT IMPLICIT NO LONGER: RSS feeds are a subtopic of a much larger subject, that of the contract between content creators on the 'Net and the readership. I don't know if anyone else has ever made this explicit, but I felt it was time I gave it a shot. Here's my understanding of that contract which, as I describe within, really is just a list of hopes on the part of the independent creators like myself.
If you have a suggestion for improving said contract, by all means drop me a line.
SCALE UP: This in from Ilan:
I'm helping to organize the Southern California Linux Expo, which is a grass roots/non-profit linux event. I would like to try to put together some kind of UFie gathering/meetup before, during or after the conference.
SCALE is going to be Feb 11th and 12th and the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA.
If you'd like to join Ilan and other SoCal UFies, drop him a line at ilan at the domain name of the SoCal website. Thanks Ilan!
