[Kethryvis] UF DOES LWE.. AND WE NEED YOU!Date:Fri Jul 21 15:44:27 2000
First off.. UF will have a booth at the Linux World Conference and Expo in San Jose August 15 thru the 17th. Come hang out with us, meet your fave UF personalties, play with our toys and meet other UFies! Myself, WebDiva, Yohimbe, Wildcard, Iambe, and Ciannait will be at the booth and we'll have cameo appearences by Illiad, the Smiling Man, and Darkside Dave. So c'mon down and hang with us. We've got cool stuff we'll be premiering at this show!

Second off.. I need UFies!! I need two UFies who are a) going to be at LWE in August, and b) are 5'2" tall or shorter. If you meet both of these qualifications and want to help us, shoot me some email.

And lastly... I wanna have a UFie meet! I know there's lots of UFies headed to this show, so what better time to hold a meet? We can hit dinner some night or we could hit the Great America theme park.. the possibilities are endless. So if you want to hang with a bunch of UFie folk, email me, let me know how long you're in town and we'll all get a meet goin'!

[WebDiva D] THE X-MEN ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO THE CODERBUFF GRRLS!Date:Fri Jul 21 13:29:08 2000
Those of you who pop into IRC channel #userfriendly regularly will already know that Bryan Hoben, aka uberUFie Ooka, has immortalized yours truly, Kethryvis, Iambe, Ciannait and IRC #userfriendly goddesses Lisha and Ardaniel, in his Open Knightly cartoon saga, CoderBuff Grrls:

Penguin mints, computer parts and attitude, these are the ingredients for the perfect little geekgirl, but Prof. Torvalds accidently added a secret ingredient, Chemical Lin-x, thus, the CoderBuff Grrls were born!

The saga runs over 18 strips/3 pages and is available for viewing at Vision Meld Comics

I believe the grrls and I have already thanked Bryan individually, but I want to take this opportunity to publicly huggleflounce Ooka-Buff-Daddy for the co-starring role and for being especially receptive to all of our character suggestions.

[Wildcard] ARS MAINTAINANCE UPDATEDate:Thu Jul 20 19:31:51 2000
Recently, some ARS users have forgotten their passwords. I do this all the time. I think I've easily reached the 50 email limit for forgotten passwords on slashdot. Actually, if my cookie dies for some reason, I think they'll be sending me some more mail.

UserFriendly has decided to implement this feature. In order for it to work, we must know your email address. You won't receive any email unless you ask for it. Go to the ARS account admin page to set your address. The "Visible Email" can be anything you want. If you prefer, you can leave it blank. The "Valid Email" is what UserFriendly sees. No one has access to this. Our policy on what we do with your address and what we won't do with your address is here.

Unfortunately, if you forget your password and haven't set your "Valid Email" address, we have no way to verify your identity, and, thus, cannot reset your password. Your account will remain in limbo for all of recorded time.

[WebDiva D] STATIC CLING...THE GOOD KINDDate:Wed Jul 19 18:41:06 2000
One of the suggestions from Survey 2000 was that we create a UF email Newsletter. We are excited to announce that we are working on the content of our first issue! The Static Cling will be published monthly and will include unique content ranging from regular columns by UF staffers, notes from Illiad, a feature from the Columbia Internet staff, unique cartoon, humor list, special links, a peek inside the UF projects hopper and a trivia contest with prizes. There will also be a special commenting system "for newsletter members only."

Everyone who registers for the email Newsletter receives 50 Geekpoints as a thank you. If you subscribe *before* August 15th - the inaugural issue launch date - you will receive an additional 50 Geekpoints. That's 100 Geekpoints total for being an early subscriber to "The Static Cling"! We have included Opt-In registration for The Static Cling in the current version of the ARS/Comment system.

If you are already registered in the ARS/Comment system, Log-in and go to your Account Admin page to Opt-In or go here for more info. If you are not yet registered in the system, go here for more information on the newsletter opt-in and registration process.

ComicCon in San Diego is approaching, and there is a UFie meet planned.. have you forgotten? !Pitr sure hasn't.. he's organizing it and it should be fun. The plan is to meet at NOON on Saturday "at the Tables under the Sails (if you go there you'll know what [he's] talking about.)" The exact table is not determined yet, but he'll be "[the] bearded guy wearing a Dust Puppy tshirt with other UF paraphernalia."

So if you're headed to ComicCon this week, stop by on Saturday and meet some other UFies! !Pitr also says that he has limited crash space for any UFies interested. Send him some email if you're in need. (big thanks to !Pitr for the spiffy graphic too!)
