| | [Illiad] ANOTHER STEP CLOSER TO WORLD DOMINATION. FNORD. | Date:Sun Feb 16 21:53:42 2003 |
I've received a whole lot of e-mail regarding the Sunday, February 16 2003 cartoon featuring our hero Greg as a playing card for use with Steve Jackson Games' Illuminati, the card game of conspiracies! This classic in its original black & white half-size version kept me up late at nights when I should've been studying for university exams and instead made me suspect the faculty. Judging from the response, there are in fact quite a few Illuminat players out there. Fnord. A common request was for a hi-res version of the strip so that the card could be printed out and mounted on one of the blank cards that come with the game. You asked for it, You Got It!
The file is a .TIF (ZIPped to a half meg) that is ready to print in colour. Depending on your printer, switch it from RGB to CMYK if you think you'll get a better colourspace in the latter mode. RGB seems to work fine for the simple colours on the strip. Fnord.
Enjoy, and thank you for the feedback! If there's enough interest, I'll come up with a few more cards for the game. And if you haven't played the game yet, do yourself a favour and pick up a copy! I mean, what if everything in the tabloids were true?

| [Illiad] A NEW SPONSOR, IN CASE YOU HADN'T NOTICED! | Date:Fri Feb 14 09:45:14 2003 |
The Microsoft Desktop business unit is sponsoring UF for the first quarter of 2003. We know that the vast majority of you buy, use, support and/or service MS products, so the fit seemed natural. Aside from the ads, they've also sponsored a section on the site you can find here. The section covers Windows XP and Office XP for individual to enterprise level users, and links will take you to the XP information site.

I have a few things I need to get off my plate, so here they are. I'll be doing one of these "backfeeds" every month to answer the most common questions I receive and bring up any news snippets.
- Quite a few people e-mailed this week asking about official UF Big Foam Cluebats as shown in the strip for Feb 10, 2003. And the answer is: sure! But we need significant interest before I can approach our merchandiser about getting a run of these things done. If you'd be interested in one or more, please attach a comment to this article so we can get an informal idea of the numbers.
- A long-time UFie sent in a link to his Significant Other's recipe site at Concina Picante. Most geeks I know love good food, and some of the recipes here are mouth-watering. A signed book and my eternal worship for the first UFie who invites me over for Bacon-wrapped Chicken next time I'm visiting your town. ;)
- I'll be attending three conferences over the next few months, including Linux Northwest Fest in April [update: my mistake, April, not March - Illiad](hey, Maddog's gonna be there!), PenguinCon in Michigan in May and Duckon XII in Chicago in June. By all means come on out and down some beers and snarf back some good food with me. Par-tay!
- This snippet in from jannis: Illiad, I wanted to ask you whether you knew about the threats caused by the TCPA/Palladium issue... If not, please check out http://www.notcpa.org/.
I did check it out. Yeesh. Spread the word. [update: this in from Robert M., an open-source software author. notcpa.org may be FUD, go here: http://www.research.ibm.com/gsal/tcpa/tcpa_rebuttal.pdf and decide for yourself. Requires Acrobat Reader. - Illiad]
- The next UF sponsorship drive will take place either at the end of this month or early in March. Thank you to everyone for their patience while we work out the kinks (and fix the a few fulfillment problems we've had...we're almost there, you haven't been forgotten!)
And that's it for this time around. Thanks gang!
