| [sanity] DOTCOMMA CODER CONTEST | Date:Fri Oct 27 10:43:48 2000 |
Dotcomma is offering up a challenge to all the coders out there. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a program that takes English text and outputs it the way Pitr speaks. At the minimum, your program must be able to input text from a user-specified URL on the web and output the text in Pitr-speak. - It must convert English text to Pitr-speak
- It must accept input in the form of a web address (URL)
- Your program must be precompiled (if applicable) so the user need only run the program. The source code and an optional readme file must be grouped together with the program in a ZIP file. For more information on these rules, please go to the Dotcomma site for a complete account.
The grand prize winner will most likely include one or more optional features, and feature "fluent" translations. The judges will be using real User Friendly strips to test accuracy so code well young ones. We're rounding up some top secret prizes for the winner(s) to sweeten up the deal, just in case the love and respect of your peers isn't enough motivation. :) This news item will self destruct...

| [WebDiva D] OCTOBER GEEKFINDER SUCCESS STORIES | Date:Mon Oct 23 11:46:39 2000 |
Success Story 1 I do consulting with Progress Database software. It's not very widely used, and finding jobs can be even tougher. I spent 2 months sending out resumes, reading papers, even posting on Monster, Thingamajob, etc. . . Then I noticed the link on UserFriendly to GeekFinder. I decided to give it a try even though I had no luck with other boards...full storyRobb I. Success Story 2 As a big fan of UserFriendly, I had known about GeekFinder for quite some time, never really thinking that I would need their services. I was a contract employee making good money at a place which was very casual in a job which piqued my interests. Needless to say, as things go, 2 weeks after being assured that the contract would be extended for at least a year (with a substantial increase in pay), things go south and the company runs out of money to pay the programmers (how they will get anything done now is really beyond me). Enter GeekFinder...full story Doug S. Success Story 3 Earlier this year I was living in an area of California swarming with dot.commies. System administrators (or people claiming to be sysadmins) were a dime a dozen. With the cost of living rising and median house prices being over half a million, I didn't see how my wife and I were going to make it. I decided to turn this around and apply on Geekfinder...full story Brandon F. Success Story 4 After enduring the moronic head hunters that didn't bother to read the part about how I didn't want to be contacted by head hunters (no contract positions)...full story M. B. Thanks and mucho congrats to Robb, Doug, Brandon and MB! If you have a Geekfinder Success Story, email it to me. If you are a geek looking for work, or a company looking for a geek and you haven't checked out Geekfinder yet then get on over there!
