CHANGES, DEVELOPMENTS, ET. AL.
22:46 PST 04 DEC 1998
There are still things under development, so expect a slow but noticable explosion of stuff over the next little while. New artwork (which you get to grab and use), new sections, more content and the beginnings of a staff here at userfriendly.org -- all volunteers of course, which gets them points on the Geek Chart. Oh, and I flubbed the link of the day (Zuke) so I'm leaving it on the Static over the weekend so people get a chance to check it out from here if you haven't already.

YET ANOTHER JOB LEAD
11:44 PST 04 DEC 1998
This is starting to become a habit, but it's a darn good one -- bringing geeks together with cool geek companies. The talented team at Ensemble Studios (the folks who brought you Age of Empires) are looking for a top-notch Art Director to help realize the vision of their titles. Check it out if you're an artist-type. If you're into it, tell them Illiad sent you. Thanks to Matt Pritchard for the lead, even though he should be coding instead of writing me so that I can play AoE2 sooner rather than later. :)

EDUCATION IN OPEN SOURCE POLITICS
23:24 PST 03 DEC 1998
If you have no idea who Eric S. Raymond is (as featured in Thursday's as well as Friday's cartoons), don't feel bad. Briefly, he's one of the most outspoken and articulate evangelists of the Open Source movement in North America, if not the world. There's an article in the Washington Post on Eric that's worth reading whether or not you know who he is. See, cartoons can be educational too. :-)

WILL YOU GET A LOAD OF THIS
00:44 PST 03 DEC 1998
Here's the story. About three months ago, a major book publisher approached me (that was one helluva surprise) regarding a book deal. It's taken a little while, but an offer has come through, thanks to the enormous support from the UFie community. Every single letter in support of the book was read, and I daresay helped launch the offer. So thank you! Right now my literary agent is in negotiations with the publisher on the language of the contract. When the deal is inked I'll give you more details. The world is beginning to understand that you don't trifle with UFies and what they want. :)

YOU NEED BUT ASK
17:32 PST 01 DEC 1998
I changed the front page as per the boatload of suggestions that were sent in. Unless I see a better example submitted (or unless everyone still hates the front page) I'll stay with this one. I think. :-)

This doesn't mean the HTML gods out there won't have row to hoe. Fact of the matter is, the site will continue to be under development as I tweak and make changes to suit as many people as possible. One thing I can't do, even though it is a great idea, is maintain the old site as well as this new one. The maintenance nightmares that would bring would involve me having even less of a life than I do now. What I will do, however, is try very hard to make the current layout work as best as possible.

Keep sending in the suggestions. I will bow to public demand.

SO IT THEMES

Trae Mc Combs over at themes.org interviews me and strings me up as Tiler of the Week. Thanks, Trae.

HERE'S THE CHALLENGE
11:35 PST 01 DEC 1998
It seems like most people are at least 'okay' with the new look on the front page, but some others hate the 'yahoo-ish' appearance. If you think you rock as a designer, grab the front page, come up with a new layout, and send it to me. You have to keep the colours the same, and all of the content currently existing must remain. The winner gets a signed t-shirt. Anyone care to give it a shot?

OKAY, YOU CAN PUT AWAY THE TORCHES & PITCHFORKS
11:15 PST 01 DEC 1998
Yes, I bolluxed the closing TABLE tags, which makes the page unreadable under Netscape. I even forgot to include the full font family, instead of just Verdana. Both are fixed now. To quote a faithful reader: "Just to let you know, I couldn't get to 90% of the new site. Lots of links that produce nothing but a banner. Lukily, Latest Cartoon works, so most fans won't murder you." I'm relieved. :) Now I have to go through all that mail...

AGGRESSIVE PROGRESSION
03:00 PST 01 DEC 1998
The site has been redone. Yes, it's still a work in progress (what Web site isn't?) so expect a few more changes over the next little while as I tweak and hack. Also, if you see a bug or a place that needs improvement, write me, but don't expect anything to be fixed right away...I stayed up late, so I'm likely going to wake up late. :-b
