| [Illiad] THUS WE APPROACH YULE | Date:Sun Dec 17 22:21:34 2000 |
Projects and travel have kept me from doing a State of the Onion post for a while now, so I'm making sure I get this in tonight. Briefly: things are going ahead as smoothly as can be for the financing (and let me reiterate one more time for those who are considering this route -- it can take a very long time, much longer than you'd expect). We should have all the t's crossed and i's dotted by the middle of January, all things considered. Not much else I can tell you without violating my own Vapourware Rule, so I won't say any more until we're closer to completion. Let's just say there's plenty going on under the hood and there's even more in the hopper. ;) I do have a couple of things to share with you, however: Remember the cartoon strip last week that introduced Stef's penguin doll? Well, a couple of worthies who go by the handles of Hektor9 and Ida have suggested petitioning the Linux community to change the name of the mascot from 'Tux' to 'Mr. Naughty Seabird.' I refuse to comment on this, because I really don't want to earn the enmity of people like Linus or Alan. :) The other thing certainly worth sharing is a satellite photo that Indiana UFie tuxrules acquired just recently. It seems that DarkSide Dave is good as his word. Gah. And that's it for now. I'll be posting more later this week, and likely on the weekend or on the 25th itself, just to wish all of you a fine holiday season.

| [sanity] DEAR SANTA, OUR STAFF HAS BEEN REALLY GOOD THIS YEAR... | Date:Fri Dec 15 09:35:56 2000 |
We thought we'd share our strangest x-mas wishes with everyone this year to let you know - yes, it's true... we're not normal. However, I'm sure we're not the only ones. What do you want for x-mas?Dear Santa, I would really like an extra arm for Christmas÷. for drawing! I would also like you to clean up all the dirty minds of my readers. You can tell who's naughty and stuff right? Well then, just listen for the word "Llama." Give all of those people nasty coal. :) Thanks Santa, Illiad Dear Santa, All of our artists have been really good this year. They've drawn and slaved and occasionally answered the phone even! For all their good work, they just want a couple of little presents under their trees÷ All of them want more RAM. Banacek wants a 19' monitor like all of the other artists, and the return of the Shamrock shake from Mickey D's. He'd prefer to get the Shamrock shake on St. Patrick's day but he knows dealing with giant corporations can be tricky so he's asking in advance. Grovella wants a kitchen and a new colour in the rainbow. Actually, a kitchen painted in the new rainbow colour, might be good as well. Lurch would like a camouflage robe to match his camouflage office slippers so that he can blend into the wall and avoid staff meetings. Failing that, he would like some Pot 'O Gold chocolates. You can get some at the Mac's store downstairs. Thanks Santa, The Drawers

| [sanity] MORE GEEK SONGS! | Date:Fri Dec 15 09:23:33 2000 |
I'm really having *far* too much fun with this holiday parody song thing. Here's a challenge... try going out caroling with some of the geek songs people have been writing in the comment system. (hey - and write some songs in the comment system too) Then, give a full account of your weekend madness on Monday. MP3's of the fun excepted as well. Email me stories :) Frosty the Salesman Frosty the Salesman, was a marketing dynamo, With a three-piece suit and a small cell phone, and two contracts on the go. Frosty the Salesman, is a scarytale they say. He was made of dough, but the techies know that new money fades away. There must have been some magic in that old laptop they found For when they placed it in his hand, pop-up windows popped around! Oh, Frosty the Salesman, was as bad as he could be; And the techies say he used to code and play, Just the same as you and me.

Our favourite Techie takes to the interviewer's chair this month. You know the drill. We'll pick the cream of the crop out and pose them to the intrepid hell desk guy. You have until next Monday to post your question, so get those minds a-chuggin'. We'll post the answers (along with the rest of the Greg Gallery) sometime after Christmas most likely.
