OKAY, THAT'S PRETTY AWESOME 21:28 PST 13 DEC 1998 What, #9 readers' favourite website in the world wasn't good enough? In one week, thanks to the efforts of some dauntless UFies, User Friendly has reached the #3 position on the World Charts. What's got me flabbergasted is that I don't actively solicit votes, and yet we're skyrocketing to the top. There's a Reckoning coming, and the UFies are leading the way... :) A FLURRY ON THE WAY 21:21 PST 13 DEC 1998 My work queue is starting to shorten. With luck I'll have all of the things that need doing done this week (contacting and organizing the volunteers, getting images ready, etc.) so that we're in position to do a launch and push by New Year's. Thanks for bearing with me.

ANOTHER BATCH FILE 22:14 PST 10 DEC 1998 There's a new addition to the Fan Art page by Marteinn, and it seems we got yet another mention, albeit a small one, in Need To Know, an on-line journal in the UK. Lastly, for those of you who have sent in reviews to be posted in the Geekstuff section, please bear with me for a few more days while I work things out (the same goes for the people who have signed up to be volunteers -- information is forthcoming.) Thanks!

TOP 10 IN THE WORLD?! HOW THE...?!?! 23:11 PST 09 DEC 1998 So this is what you guys are doing behind my back. I just got notice that User Friendly ranks #9 in the Top 100 Web Sites in the world according to World Charts. It's never been important to me to have UF up at the top of anything; I just want people to really enjoy the strip and join in on a community that's growing explosively. But hey, if voting for UF makes you guys happy, who am I to argue? :) I'm both flattered and honoured. UFies are an awesome lot. NETWORK WORLD 23:04 PST 09 DEC 1998 Looks like UF got a mention in the Dec 07 1998 edition of Network World as a follow-up to the 'John Glenn Apesuit' joke. (NOTE: You'll have to register to get into the site. It's free, but it'll take a minute.) I couldn't find the mention in the online version, but apparently it's in the print version of the periodical. Thanks to Kris Anderson for the heads up! MORE FROM THE BATCH FILE 23:01 PST 09 DEC 1998 Three more additions to the Neat Files page: A Windowmaker User Friendly theme that's been around for a while, a nifty Windowmaker Christmas UF theme based on the Christmas Dust Puppy by Dylan Reeve, and a Winamp User Friendly skin by the prolific Seung Park. Thanks guys!

IT IS SO YUMMY 20:57 PST 08 DEC 1998 The link to the Vegemite site and my stated love of the dark, salty stuff sure generated a few responses. Yes, I know Marmite rocks too; in fact, I'll happily eat either. Whichever one you eat, good on you. If you don't like the stuff, then there's just more for those of us who do like it. THAT THAR CUTE FURRY FELLA 20:53 PST 08 DEC 1998 Ever since the new format for the site was launched I've been deluged by requests to use the animated Dust Puppy on the font page as a link graphic. The answer is: please feel free. Just make sure you link it back to http://www.userfriendly.org/ and that you put a copyright notice somewhere on the page that effectively says, "the Dust Puppy is copyright © Illiad 1998" blah blah blah. Oh, and thank you all for asking first. It warms my heart to know that so many people out there respect the intellectual property of others. You guys are great.

WOW, THAT'S A LOT OF UFIES 21:33 PST 07 DEC 1998 I just heard that the largest t-shirt order we've had to date was 22, count 'em twenty-two t-shirts sent to Kirchheim, Germany. Another large order was 12 t-shirts sent to Umea, Sweden. Thanks to everyone who ordered (those two orders went out today, by the way). OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER, YOUNG ENOUGH NOT TO CARE 21:30 PST 07 DEC 1998 Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's my birthday. Thanks to Arcterex, every UFie he knows and every UFie they know got wind of this. The resultant deluge in my mailbox of good wishes was really quite touching. :) Thanks everyone. Rest assured that when Arcterex's birthday comes up, I'll be letting the oh-so-few readers of the comic strip know about it. ;)
Oh, and thanks Arc, ya rotten miserable sod. :) FROM THE BATCH FILE 00:26 PST 07 DEC 1998 Okay, a few quickies here. I've updated the Strip FAQ with comments about the upcoming book, and some answers to a questions that has appeared exactly twice in my mailbox -- but it was worth airing publicly. New items in the Neat Files section, specifically a Quicktime Movie of the 'Quake Song' (sung by Clan Fusion) compiled by Richard Parker, a brilliant little Javascript that grabs the latest UF comic strip as an HTML document by the ever-capable Erik Fortin, and by popular demand, a wallpaper-sized version of the Christmas Dust Puppy found on the home page. Also, a new honourable mention in the Fan Art section by Seung Park. VOLUNTEERS! TEN-HUT! 00:22 PST 07 DEC 1998 If you've written in to sign up as a UFie volunteer recently (for more info, check out the Contact Us section), I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I've had to think things through regarding the way duties are doled out, and I think I have a handle on it now. You'll be getting a letter soon. Be advised, however, that UFie volunteerism is rife with responsibility. Well, it's not that bad, but I am looking for people who can commit for a period of at least six months and who won't just vanish without letting me know that they're off on a trip to Paris or Baffin Island or some place like that.
