| | [Didactylos] WORLD COMMUNITY GRID MARCH 2008 | Date:Fri Mar 14 01:19:02 2008 |
The team does good: We have just passed 500 million points. That's over 1200 years of computation! Congratulations, and thank you all.
Need a reason to join? I pray you never have a personal reason. Don't do this because of external pressure, simply join Team UserFriendly.Org because it is the right thing to do.
What does the future hold? World Community Grid have more work queued up than they can ever complete unless every last one of us helps out to the best of our ability. In addition to the several cancer projects and many other medical projects, future projects may address world hunger and also the need for clean energy.
What good does it do, anyway? For some of the projects hosted by World Community Grid, the computation aspect is just one side of a much larger endeavour. For example, Help Conquer Cancer is part of a much larger research effort, coordinated by the Ontario Cancer Institute (OCI), Princess Margaret Hospital, and the University Health Network.

| [Illiad] OPEN SEASON ON UI DESIGN EXPERTS | Date:Wed Mar 12 15:32:01 2008 |
SCANNING THE HORIZON WITH OUR HEADS-UP DISPLAY: We're looking for one (1) good UI expert (or team) to help us with a Big Project. If you've seen one, or are one, please drop us a line at the usual address (biz =at= userfriendly.org) with a link to your portfolio and a one-page summary. In formal talk:
Design Geek(s) Wanted: Must be able to convert caffeine into deliverables! Your location is not important, as we're accustomed to working with telecommuters/distributed workforces. We do give preference to those who are close to the Pacific time zone. Because you won't be working with us face to face, you must have an excellent command of English, both written and verbal. This also means you're really really good at communicating with us on a regular basis. If you're not dead-on but close, feel free to apply.
User Interface Designer:
You're great at designing simple, intuitive interfaces, especially for web applications. You have a quirky sense of colour and are able to turn the most drab, utilitarian web form into a streamlined work of Zen eye-candy. Clutter and overhead are bad, slick and understated is good. If you hate MySpace and Facebook, you're probably our kind of people. In summary you will have:
- UI Design Experience: At least three major projects as lead
- Graphics Design Experience: 5+ years of direct experience
- DHTML/CSS: You breathe, eat and dream stylesheets!
- Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks
- Flash or Flex
