TRICK OR FEET! Do you know how many rude words rhyme with "trick"? It took me a long thirty seconds to come up with a sub-title that wasn't at least a little suggestive. I present to you, as usual (albeit a few days late, sorry!) the October 2005 UF Desktop Wallpaper Calendar Sunday version and Monday version. [.PNG, 1600x1200, ~180k] Enjoy!
THAT BOOK PLUS ONE MILLION IMPRESSIONS: I'm offering up a contest involving my book on making money with online content; the book is due out November 7th, a bit over a month away at the time of this writing. With your copy of the book in hand, by November 17th I'll need you to e-mail me a particular word from the book (the specific word location will be given on or before November 7) along with your snail mail address. Yes, privacy rules apply. I'll draw one name who will get a signed copy of the book (so you give your first one away, or sell it or sell the signed one or whatever) plus one million banner impressions on UserFriendly.Org promoting your site or any site of your choosing that falls within the "acceptable content" rules for UF. More details as we get closer to the publishing date; this is just a heads-up.

YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED I'VE WRITTEN A BOOK: In April of this year I put my fingers to the keyboard and pounded with abandon until July, and voila! Out came a book. It's 70,000 words of "how not to make the mistakes I made as an online content provider" with accompanying illustrations including some UF strips written specifically for the book. Money for Content and your Clicks for Free is available for pre-order through Amazon; it hits store shelves (in the U.S. at least) on November 7th. I've made the Preface to the book available here as a PDF [.PDF, ~20K] so you can see what the book really is (and isn't) about. Enjoy!
V-CON APPROACHES: I'm attending V-Con this year (Oct 7th to 9th) and running a panel on -- you guessed it -- making a living as a content provider on the Web! V-Con has some truly stellar Guests of Honour this year, including one of my favourite SF authors, Robert Silverberg. And, if you're a BSG fan (that's Battlestar Galactica, the new series), there'll be a plethora of stars and production staff from the show, including (among many) the lovely Leah Cairns and the very talented Eric Chu. Did you know they shoot most if not all of BSG in Vancouver? And that the shootout scene on Caprica between Boomer and Helo took place at my old university, Simon Fraser U.? Welcome to Hollywood North. ;)
