SUMMER ENCOUNTER COMPUTER PARTY 00:03 PDT 18 JUL 1999 In the tradition of Norway's yearly Gathering, Denmark offers Summer Encounter to all who seek a fine old time at a computer arts festival. The event begins on the 21st of July (just a few days now) -- the lateness of this news item was my fault, so you can blame me if you wanted to go but didn't get enough notice. (You know, we need more of these festivals in North America -- personally, I can't drop everything and fly to Europe to attend these events more than once a year). UPCOMING SURVEY AND CONTEST 00:02 PDT 18 JUL 1999 Just a quick heads-up for you folks -- it's nearly time for us to conduct a new survey, and if you participate you'll be entered into a draw for UF merchandise. I'm not precisely certain when the survey will be ready, but as soon I get the details together I'll let you all know.

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE 00:48 PDT 17 JUL 1999 Robotech Master wrote in with this tidbit: BotCon, the Transformers convention going on at the RiverCentre convention center in downtown St. Paul, MN, this Saturday and Sunday. It's possible that some UFies are also transfans and might want to drop by. It's open to the public, but there is an admission fee.

ORIGINAL ART AUCTION UPDATE 00:01 PDT 16 JUL 1999 And so it goes. At the time of this writing, the illustration at Amazon is at USD$560.00, and the one at eBay is at USD$510.00. Certainly quite a bit more than I expected! I should also point out that the auction for both ends on Monday, and that these will likely be the only pieces I put up for sale this millenium. ;-)

A WISH FOR THINGS THAT WORK 00:01 PDT 15 JUL 1999 I got quite a bit of mail from people who really enjoyed the salute to Bloom County in yesterday's strip, and I thank everyone for their words of praise. It should be obvious by now that Berke Breathed's Bloom County has been by far the greatest influence on my cartooning. I only felt it was fitting to offer a tip of the hat to my two favourite characters in that venerable strip, Opus and Oliver. And to answer a few of the letters, no, I probably won't bring the Bloom County characters back, aside from the legal issues, I just don't think it'd be right if I laid it on that thick. :)

The booth will be stocked with UF paraphernalia and I'll be there at set times (to be determined) to sign whatever you like. More details as we get closer, but it's a go!
