BATCH DELAY 00:01 PST 23 JAN 1999 There's a slew of new and interesting developments that have come to a head, including the addition of some new staff to userfriendly.org, but I'll leave that until Monday. In fact, unless something really kick-ass pops up, I'm going to skip the news for the weekend. I'm going to take a bit of a rest. We'll see exactly how long that lasts. :-b [ARCHIVED NEWS]
BLAME IT ON IAMBE 00:56 PST 22 JAN 1999 Yeah, the page update is a little late today, but that's only because Iambe spirited me away for a Foin Point of Guinness; I'm not a beer drinker, but Guinness isn't beer, it's Guinness. VOLUNTEER DELUGE 00:52 PST 22 JAN 1999 Okay, easy on the volunteer applications! I am literally swamped with offers of help, which is very gratifying and amazing, especially because these volunteers are highly skilled individuals. I'm about a month behind on replies, so please remain patient. Finally, please understand that I can only utilize so many brains at one time, so you may not make the first cut. If you're not chosen in the first go-around, I'll keep you on file for the next one.

FINAL WORD ON ZIP ARCHIVES 00:01 PST 21 JAN 1999 I've been asked a few times about providing a downloadable ZIP of all of the cartoons on the site. Without getting in to too much detail, I can't do this because of a variety of reasons, some of them having to do with my site sponsors. Have patience though. One day I'll release a compilation of a CD-ROM with a pile of other nifty digital things.

NOT MUSIC TO MY EARS 00:03 PST 20 JAN 1999 By now I'm sure everyone's heard about how The Internation Lyrics Server got shut down by music industry bigwigs. Details here. This sort of thing really irks me, because it's just another example of the Big Boys smacking around the little guy, simply because the bigwigs think they're losing money to the site operators -- and of course they're wrong. One of these days I'm going organize and fund a grassroots effort to legally hamstring the arrogant dolts who pull this kind of crap. JUST THE FAQS, M'AM 00:01 PST 20 JAN 1999 I've updated the FAQ regarding UF appearing in print. I was so busy with other things I neglected to fix that after the Linux Journal and National Post came on board. Thanks to Jeff Brooks for waking me up to the fact. Err, FAQ. Uh...

UH OH. HERE WE GO AGAIN 00:04 PST 19 JAN 1999 Intrepid UFie Walker pointed out something for all to see: The Person of the Century poll. Hmmm. Wonder if Mick Foley will get spanked this time? And if you're going to go at this, let's remain polite. No hammering the servers. You guys have proven you're a force to be feared. :) YOU BRADE RUNNER 00:01 PST 19 JAN 1999 Hey, for those who live in or are near the Vancouver area, the Vancouver Sun Run is drawing near again. Me, I like running, so I'll likely be out there provided that I don't get sucked away into some conference or invite to an event somewhere. Ten kilometres in less than fifty minutes would be cool for me, so now's the time to start training. ANYway, mapleleaf has taken on the task of organizing a group of at least nine UFies by February 19. That's the deadline. More details can be found on a page that she put together for just this thing. Come on folks, cough up your $27.00, get training, get fit, and do it for UFiedom!

GEEKSTUFF UPDATED BY GEEKCHYK 00:09 PST 18 JAN 1999 Yup, even more Good Things Geek added to the growing Geekstuff section. Book reviews and some nifty ideas from Tricia, the Editor of All Things Geek. Now that she's given you some brainbread, do her a favour and fill her mailbox with your own book review, software review, or brilliant idea. OKAY, I'VE HAD MORE THAN MY FIFTEEN MINUTES... 00:03 PST 18 JAN 1999 I was on Dotto on Data today. It's a computer show hosted by Steve Dotto and airs on radio as well as television. If you didn't catch it, you probably won't ever see it since it was live. There's another television interview coming up today (which was filmed on Friday), but you have to be able to tune in to CBC in British Columbia to see it; it's being featured on Bookmarks, which airs between 1800 and 1900 hours tonight. I hope I didn't have a booger hanging out of my nose. IAMBE'S IN HER NEW HOME 00:01 PST 18 JAN 1999 In case it wasn't obvious, I've moved Iambe's way spiff column into her section. There's also a summary and link to her daily column on the Static every day for your convenience. We're still hashing out the reorganization of some of the sections, so please be patient, remain calm, and don't feed the llamas.
