Quantum Charm Publishing Ltd. (the parent company of UF.org) is seeking smart, reliable people with the ability to operate on 4 hours of sleep a night to assist us in developing a Darn Spiffy online game. The development cycle for the project is estimated to be in the 6 month range to reach early beta. The technology involved is not new, cutting-edge or even mildly amusing, but we think the game model is the cat's pants.

Compensation to be a blend of cash and incentive bonuses (not options!), tied to the success of the game/project.

Note: This is a deliverables-based project. If you think you can do it part-time (and many of you are probably driven and/or gifted enough to do so) then it shouldn't interfere with your day job. It might eat into your sleep hours however.

We're a mostly equal-opportunity employer, but we openly discriminate against really stupid people.

Lead Coder
You're the Head Cheese when it comes to architecture decisions. You know how to take a design document and turn it into a development doc. You'll also be writing much of the code and directing one or two other coders in their efforts. You should be experienced (3+ years, 5+ is preferred) in writing airtight secure code that handles financial transactions. You are a database master and have bags of client/server and webapp knowledge. You don't need a degree, but you must have solid cred in the industry.

Art Director
Can you do web noir? Dark, gritty, dystopic images, reminiscent of Frank Miller's Sin City and Ridley Scott's Bladerunner? These are your building blocks, but like any Lego set, you're free to build as you like. You'll also be overseeing the work of one or two other artists. Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, none of these scare you. You should have two or more years of art direction experience. No degree required, but be prepared to show us a smashing online portfolio, preferably something that doesn't just focus on boobies.

Content Designer
You write because you can't help it, and people don't run screaming when you approach them with your "latest masterpiece." If someone were to say "dark and nasty," you'd instantly think of William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, Rudy Rucker and Philip K. Dick. You can write zippy short stories, powerful speeches, and create interesting characters. You also understand how games work at the fundamental level -- no handwaving or "the computer will figure it out." This means you have loads of experience with pen-and-paper RPGs, card games and board games. You'll be working with the Producer in content creation for the game world as well as helping balance gameplay at the design level. No degree required, but be prepared to send two short stories and a game abstract for review.

Interested minds should send in a one or two page CV with references and links to previous work (art, writing, software). Please send it to me at my usual address with the subject "Dark Rain City Application."

Deadline for Applications: December 23, 2005.
