ZEROING IN ON 1999 23:02 PST 27 DEC 1998 We're in the final stretch for the New Year now. I have a bunch of notable links, neat files, geekstuff and new developments, but I'll save them until January (probably the 4th, the first Monday of 1999). In meantime I'll post a daily news and a link as usual. The world is still shut down for the most part. WAS THE FAT GUY IN THE RED SUIT GOOD TO YOU? 22:58 PST 27 DEC 1998 I hoped everyone would have a fun holiday, but I know at least some of you (people who wrote in and told me) had a crappy Christmas. I was gratified to know that User Friendly helped make you smile again. Next year I'll endeavour to be much more active on the site, with news, links and discussions in an attempt to make the days a little easier for the UFies who have to work over the holidays. It's the least I could do.

| ALL THE BEST TO YOU AND YOURS 22:49 PST 23 DEC 1998 I'm signing off until December 27th, so this is the last news item until then. I hope all of you have a terrific holiday, and stay safe. Check out the Link of the Day below for one last Christmas chuckle. Feliz navidad! YEP, THOSE NUMBERS MEAN SOMETHING 22:44 PST 23 DEC 1998 Any Star Wars aficianado worth his salt remembers the line, "Prisoner transfer from cell block 1138" in A New Hope. That was Lucas' easter egg in his flick, a reference to his curious first foray in the field of science fiction movies, THX-1138. Can anyone tell me where the easter egg is in his other blockbuster, Raiders of the Lost Ark? Anyway, thanks to all of the folks who wrote in asking about the reference. See, I actually do pay attention on occasion. :-)

| IT'S JUST ABOUT THAT TIME 23:13 PST 21 DEC 1998 We're getting mighty close to The Day. Since most of the world is about to shut down for the next couple of weeks, I'll be posting new news items and links only sporadically, but I promise there'll be a new cartoon every day as always. After all, just because many of us are lucky enough to have time off doesn't mean everyone is. And while you're thinking about the unfortunate people who have to sleep on the streets this Christmas, don't forget to turn a kind hand and word to the strays and unwanted animals that populate our world as well.
If this is the last time you'll be viewing the Static before Christmas, I wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday.
