[Illiad] BACKFEED OCT 2006 v1.1Date:Fri Oct 13 17:40:34 2006
ADVANCE NOTICE FOR REMEMBRANCE DAY: Remembrance Day aka Veterans Day in the U.S. and Poppy Day in South Africa. It's less than a month until November 11. A few years ago I wrote a humble poem that spoke on their sacrifices. From feedback and urging from others I have rendered the poem into a PDF file that you can print out on two sides of a bit of good-quality greeting card stock. Fold the stock in half to 8.5"x5.5". Use colour if you can. I made the art very simple so it would be easy to print.

This year, I urge you to please print out at least one of these cards, sign it, perhaps write a note in it. Maybe put it in a nice envelope. Attend the memorial service held on Remembrance Day and afterwards give a veteran or his family the card. Shake their hands and thank them sincerely.

You'll note that I did put my name inside the card in small type, but that's to protect my copyright. I don't want Hallmark or some other firm to think they can snatch the poem for their own purposes. Poems should always be gifts.

I bring this to you now so that perhaps you can print off more than just one and give them to friends. Urge them to do the same. And if you see an old soldier after the cenotaph ceremony at loose ends, take him for a drink and just sit with him for a while.

The website is november11.org with the link to the PDF the only one on the page. The poem, if you're curious, and don't wish to open a PDF, can be found here.
